What do people average on their fuel on a run on the motorway? I know some achieve 350 plus which is amazing for me as the best i get is round 270 to the whole tank,
What are the best tips to achieve good MPG's on the motorway as in speed etc, i normally have it on cruise at 75-80 MPH, would keeping it at around say 68 increase MPG by alot,
I do travel to south west alot so for me to get the best MPG on the motorway is important,
Any info tips etc shared would be grateful!

You do like your mpg threads! You know these have been done to death :P
You will get figures from 200 to 600 (those diesel fan boys!)

For the greatest Motorway mpg figures I find the back of an RAC truck gives the best returns.
It's almost as if I didn't start the engine. :xmassmiley:

420 miles. Sat at 60 mph on cruise for three hours in either direction.

On Friday I drove from Devon to Norfolk in the oh mk5 TDI with the car full of presents and 3 kids we done 357 miles and the gauge was still showing half a tank, so I reakon it will prob do 600/650 on a full tank
P.S I was going a steady 75 ish most of the way

Ive had 45mpg on a motorway run at around 70mph (in the summer). 41-42 is about the norm if I keep it at around 70mph
-
Sitting at 60 with cruise on I can easy get 40mpg, which I think is great for a 300bhp 2.0TFSI :santa:

The worst thing about this engine is its really thirsty when cold so if you go straight on the motorway, it will be doing 15mpg for the first few mins which means you have to do a fair amount of miles to bring the average up. I found this out recently.
If you start the journey on country roads in traffic doing 40-50mph and then hit the motorway after 5 miles and with a warm engine it will hit close to 40mpg overall within 15 miles, with the motorway start over 15 miles it will be closer to 30mpg. Try resetting the computer once the engine is up to temp and cruising and you'll see a lovely mpg figure from that point

Who sits on motorway at 60 for 300 miles!!! :signLOL:

Exactly... if your gonna do that you may as well have bought a 1.4TDI polo and get 75-80MPG without thinking about it.

Calm down guys! I know its Christmas no need to get over excited now.

Having just got a gti it's useful to know the figures so I know what I should be getting

I will sometimes happily sit in the left hand lane at 60mph. Usually when I'm in no rush or it's very early or very late. I usually set off early enough so never in much of a rush.
-
I do the same 60-65 mph in the inside lane when not in a hurry....and average 35mpg on stage 2+/ 360bhp+

If you want to improve your mpg then take a look at the aero mod thread where by adding the blue motion mode to the under body I now manage up to 420 miles from a tank on the motor way.

or have 2 cars, I run a TDI Bora for the weekly 500mile trek, he does a very impressive average 57mpg at 65-75ish, the S3 on the same run bein very steady will do 400 miles to a tank, but where is the fun in that, so once a week it gets a run :happy2:

I did 50 motorway miles this morning heading West into these gales we are getting, and averaged 30.4 mpg. Came back East with the tailwind at 1145 and got 35.3 mpg on the same route. :jumping:
-
I cruise at Around 75mph (Ahem) and get a solid 31mpg on a run from Norfolk to manchester (165 miles each way), I can do it on a Tank full easily with usually 35-40 miles range left over
