Title: Bluetooth Query - please help
Post by: Squeeguk on December 25, 2011, 01:39:42 pm
Hi Guys

Been trying to find the Can Gateway on my Jetta to verify the part number and stumbled across what seems to be a bluetooth module under the drivers seat.

The problem is, I cannot find a bluetooth signal when I search with my Iphone 4. The part number on the module is 3C0 035 729F. Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks

It's listed as a telephone control module and "bluetooth" aerial, but the option codes suggest it's the control module for the dash mounted cradle only.

Do you have highline dash or the cradle to the left of the head unit?

I have the Highline Display, but no cradle to the left of the Nav unit.

I presume you have no phone menu on the high line?

Not sure, but didn't notice it in there. Let me double check quickly.

Yep, definitely no phone option there.

Really needs a VCDS scan to confirm its all connected, but sounds like to me it previous had the cradle on the dash and this has been removed at some stage.

Ok, will see if there is someone in the area who can help me out with that. I am about to fit the RNS 510, along with a MFSW with DSG paddles. Looks like I might have to just replace the module with a new one and then get the coding done in one hit. From what you are saying it seems like this module will only work with the cradle?

From ETKA says it's a bit unclear, as the description says bluetooth but the code options doesn't list bluetooth

Whereabouts are you based?

Based in Camberley, Surrey. Do you perhaps know anyone around here at all?

Thanks for all the assistance.

I am in Guildford a fair bit myself so not too far, if not have a look on the register thread in the VCDS section  :happy2:

I had phone cradle and crappy VW UHV... I replaced mine with Skoda UHV as advised by many on here, works fab with Highline/RNS510 and all latest smart phones i.e Android/IOS.  Its probably the best way forward, not sure what the kit sells for now but with all the right parts it can be nicely monuted underneath drivers seat and with some simple coding via VCDS its an easy fit. Dont forget for Skoda UHV you will need the version B for red dot matrix on the highline or you wont be able to interact with the phone via the MFSW/Highline just on the RNS (if you have one?)

Excellent, thanks for the info. I am assuming it would be one of these:

http://www.uvworldwide.co.uk/ice-navigation/vw-golf-mk56-skoda-seat-mfd2-rns-510-premium-bluetooth-kit-p-2304.html

Seems like the B is for rsap phones only, while the A is for both non and rsap. I have no idea what that is, but they mention it. I want something that is going to display on my red MFD, the RNS 510, be controlled from the steering and / or RNS and has A2DP. I have no idea which one will do all that for me. Any advice?

Nope you want this kits: -

Ok, thanks, but it seems that does not do A2DP. If I were to fit one of the other units, would they work, but just not show up in the MFD? Wow, this is turning into a minefield. My wife has the Clarion NX501E in her car, a brilliant piece of kit, and I am trying to emulate those functions in the Jetta. I could do without the MFD display so long as A2DP and everything else works.

Looking at this one, it says it will work with cars with red MFD:

You would lose the function for Nav display on the highline if you use this kit  :happy2:

Bummer that sux. So my only options are:

a. Replace my clocks with the white DIS, sounds like it's opening up another can of worms.
b. Use the 729B bluetooth and not have A2DP.

Don't really want to use non OEM stuff.

Personally find the A2DP is a bit rubbish.

I would add an MDI kit for audio use  :santa:

Yep, spent a lot of time last night trawling the web trying to understand this.

Seems that the Fiscon unit is really good, but two things putting me off are the price and the fact that it doesn't use a hidden mic like the OEM setup. I even had a look at the Dension, but that does not seem as well integrated using the CD port.

With the OEM setup with A2DP seems like, as you say, they are not very good. I am also led to believe that the RNS 510 can store music on the HDD making A2DP virtually obsolete anyways.

I have been reading about issues with the Iphone 4 and the 729B, have you heard anything about this?

It's crazy that you can buy the newer kits for under £200 and the older kit costs £400.

If I had to use the Fiscon, do you think there is a way I can mod the mic to use the OEM unit? And secondly, where is the best place to get them? Cheapest price I have found is £330.

This is the reason alone that persuaded me to get an 7P6 module, oem mic and the loom from fleabay for under £125,I know that the phonebook info won't be on the highline but hey,all is displayed on the Rns anyways, all that needs doing is to fit it hopefully after the xmas break!

Whereabouts are you based? I would like to have a look at your install once done to see exactly what works and what doesn't if you don't mind. When do you think you will get round to installing it?

Are you aware that, as SteveP mentioned, that you lose the nav ability on the Highline? I know this is not a big issues as mine does not seem to switch over to that when it's time to turn anyways and then switch back to MFA. It either always stays on MFA, which I prefer, or Nav, for which there is a screen anyways.

The module is an A2DP compatible so streaming is an option but as you've just mentioned no phone info on the highline is not a issue as the Rns 510 displays all thats required.

Its compatible with most phones including the iphone that I have, will be hopefully installing after the new year, nav is displayed in the highline at the moment.

I'm in sunny Herts Btw.
 :congrats:
Module was suggested by the ever helpful Darren from this forum.

My understanding is on the 7P6 kit you need to enable BAP protocol on the RNS otherwise it won't display on the RNS, this will cause the NAV menu to no longer be displayed on the highline.

Hence why the 7P6 is a good kit for people with the RNS but without the highline  :happy2:

Can i just ask what does A2DP adn rsap stand for?

A2DP is for bluetooth streaming of music. Have a look here:

http://www.mobileburn.com/definition.jsp?term=A2DP

and rsap is Remote Sim Access Profile. It bascially allows the radio to access information on your sim card. The Iphone is not setup for rsap, but a lot of the newer phones are.

see here:

cheers! seems like a right nightmare getting bluetooth working because unless youve got the most up to date display you seem to start loosing options?!

Just had a chat with another member on here who has done this and he still had the Nav instructions on the red display. Going round to his tomorrow to scan and code the car. Very nice chap too. Will report back tomorrow once it's all done.

Just to clear up any confusion the 7P6 unit works fine without BAP enabled on RNS510 so you won't loose NAV options in your highline :)

I don't remember enabling BAP on the 7P6 I had Steve. I thought BAP was only needed to get the RNS on white displays and was done on the RNS.

I'm pretty sure I used to get NAV on my R32 on the DIS but no phone as the 7P6 wont talk to the Red display. No bother with a RNS.

Thats a relief then as I will be installing my 7P6 in the next few days,I have mk6 mfsw and BAP is disabled and most of the buttons work,I was hoping I wont lose NAV on highline but you guys have proved otherwise!

Great news!
