................And I think I like them!

Unfortunately I chipped a bit of paint on the clip when assembling them, nothing a bit of touch up can't solve though.  :happy2:

Looks great!  :happy2:

Although you may run into issues where they have gone a little coat happy and done the machined surfaces, best bet is to remove it before you fit them  :happy2:

There was a little over spray, but I have cleaned that all away, what other machined surfaces can you see that are coated???

Cheers Carl, it was 40 quid to bead blast then powder coat in signal red.

Now looking for some advice, I want to fully assemble the calipers so they are ready to just fit to the car when the mechanic gets his hands on them.  Question is, is it possible to fit the pads etc, or will this have to be done when the brake is fitted to the car?  If I can do it, can anyone enlighten me on which side of the car is the pad wear sensor, and do the hoses leave the back of the brake pointing up (my OE hoses do) or pointing down?

Cheers, Lee.

Holy 3 question marks batman

Might be down to the picture angle but the only parts to watch are the pad gallery where the pad 'ears' sit on the carrier and the rear of the carrier to hub mounting surface

It's possible to fit them with the pads already in and on mine both pipes lead off upwards  :happy2:

  It must be the picture as the pad gallery is clear of paint, thanks for your response regarding the hose orientation, can you confirm which side the pad wear sensor is?  I have it on good authority it is on the drivers side!

Wear sensor goes on the passenger side caliper in the piston.

Arrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!  Just fitted it to the drivers side, I wonder if it's different on the Skoda?

Doubt it. make sure you've worked out which one is left and right too.

I based it on which way up the hoses go, hopefully I've got that the wrong way around, then the sensor will be on the correct side!

The S3/R32 set up should fit behind 17", what size do you have?
Title: Re: S3 brakes back from powder coater............
Post by: Little_Dave on December 28, 2011, 04:15:22 pm
I got 18s but a really low offset of about 35 so it touches the caliper and would need silly spacers to make it work  :fighting: Think my old 17 monzas are about 51 or so.....

The Monza's would work, what width are your 18's?  With that offset, they should stick out further which means they will clear the caliper easy.

Fronts are 8s but it a deep dish wheel with low offset so its either brakes go or new wheels and tires time which i can't justify so gotta make the hard decision  :sad1:

Tbh, running stage 2+ I would be looking at bigger stoppers!  Perhaps a DaveB's nqsbbk is the way forward?

Yeah thats another possibility but i'd need to check sizing and guarantee they fit before spending again  :ashamed: plus sell on these beauties first

Well, the brakes were fitted today and they look   as the car was delivered back this evening I haven't bothered with pictures, but I will take a few tomorrow.  something I did notice though, the disc only shows signs that the pad is contacting with half of it, approximately the outer 50% in fact???  Is this normal for newly fitted brakes, bearing in mind that nothing is new!  One other question for any brake geeks out there, is there any reason why the front 312mm set up couldn't be fitted on the rear?

No handbrake cable attachment

The rear calipers have the handbrake built into them and you can't adapt the fronts to have a handbrake.

Any ideas regarding the uneven wear?

Are the pads seated properly? Take it out and give the brakes a good stamping. Can you see the back of the disc? If the same thing happening there? Could it be that the carriers are warped?

I can't remember from when we were chatting but are the pads used or new?

Where can you get the vRS clips? Do they fit the Cupra red calipers?

I could get to the back of the disc, but I bloody hope the carriers aren't warped!!  It still stops on a sixpence, massive improvement over OE!  I will take it out and give it a proper run in the next few days.

Where can you get the vRS clips? Do they fit the Cupra red calipers?

The clip is the original S3 one that came with the brakes, I have just sprayed it satin black, wrapped it in carbon film and a friend knocked up the vRS logo's for me.  :happy2:

Anyway, here's a sneak preview.........

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fpagey1255%2FvRS%2F381436_10150520262116473_796276472_8598924_1627028389_n.jpg&hash=ab8012814365c1fcf03520aae02cc50f41de800a)

The only problem now is the rears look small, and the calipers need powder coating to match the front!  But to do that they will need to come off, so I will need replacements....... :sad1:

Thanks mate, the missus drove it today and seeing the brakes behind the wheels rolling, especially when she booted it and slammed the ar5e end in to the floor looked..........
I will be taking a few more pictures once the car has had a spot of TLC, I need a new signature picture anyway!!!
