Title: Help - Very strange screen wash / wipe problem
Post by: jedi-knight83 on December 28, 2011, 04:18:13 pm
So driving last night... pull the wash / wipe trigger and it sprays and wipes.. pull it again and nothing.. no wiper and no screen wash.. not even a noise from the motor like its trying to spray the screen. Wipers still work if I nudge the stalk down for a one wipe or up for wipers on or forwards for the back wiper.

I figured it was the micro switch in the stalk.

Someone suggested I check the fuses.. I pulled a fuse out that was for wipers and it was fine so I put it back in... this time when i pull the wash / wipe stalk I can hear a relay clicking.... BUT.. the back wiper moves (no spray just the wiper)!?

What the hell???!! Dodgy relay?? but why is it now making the rear wiper move once (no spray) when I pull the stalk towards me?

Advice appreciated.

Try disconnecting the wiring loom that goes to the bonnet catch mechanism. Its next the right hand side of the drivers side head light.
There is a micro switch on the end of that loom that detects if the bonnet is up or down. This is linked to the wipers and if that switch is knackered the wipers do some strange things. Its a safety thing so that the wipers don't catch on the lip of the bonnet when it is released.
I have never bothered replacing the loom on mine!
