Hi Everyone!
Im a newbie on the boards here and a long time admirer of the mk5 gtis! Recently become the proud owner of a 3 door candy white edition 30. Only today have I noticed that on the brushed aluminium (i think theyre aluminium) strips on the door panels, that there are a fair few tiny dinks (possibly from jewellery from a previous owner or something). Does anybody know if it is possible to source either replacements or to refurbish these so these dinks are un-noticeable at all? I'll look to try and get a picture up for you all to see; not a huge issue but since I've noticed it it's been bugging me a bit! Thanks in advance!

I have the same Issue mate! Is it only one the drivers side by any chance?
I came to the conclusion it was the previous owner taking his seat belt of and just letting it retract fast and hit it...
I haven't looked into a replacement OEM part as I thought with it being a limited run you might not be able to get spares...
I have a friend who works at VW I'll get her to look into it...

Yea there are a couple on the passenger's side but when my dad pointed it out, with the lights on the inside of the car they really showed up loads on the drivers' side. Yea, with the ed30 i was thinking it would be pretty difficult to get replacements with it being a limited line but thought it would be worth asking. If you're able to find anything out that would be great! Not sure if theres a possibility that they can be removed and maybe re-brushed to reduce the 'obvious-ness' of them maybe?

I'm sure the standard GTIs have the same trim so may save some cash when looking.
-
No I'm pretty sure the Ed30's have specific trim which is different to the normal GTI. It's dearer too.

Buy these :santa:

Haha, although nice they're pretty steep!
Anyone reckon it's possible to use the mk5 R32 parts and get them brushed to match the ed30s at all? Might take a trip to VW to ask a whole host of questions lol....sure they will be happy!
-
The R32 ones are completely different.
-
Really? What's the difference between GTI and ED30 ones?
-
I'm sure it's on here somewhere as I asked because I replaced the trim in my R32.
If someone's interested I have a complete set of basic trim in the garage.

Yea the R32 ones have a sort of milled finish right? Not sure how thick the actual strips are though.....could possibly 'file' it down and re-brush the effect back on perhaps? What are the standard gti ones like btw?

Maybe get the standard set and refurb it yourself and do your front strip the same? there are Edition30 vinyl cut stickers on ebay?

Yea, it sounds like there are a few options to getting round it pal. Think ill give it a crack when I've got a bit more time on my hands and all that! haha
Thanks for all your help and suggestions though! Much appreciated and hopefully be on these boards more regularly!

If I'm not mistaken the R32 interior panels your on about are named 'engine spun' and are quite pricey from VW. I have an Ed30 too and was thinking for getting matching brushed stainless centre console trim, it goes around the heater controls & radio, VW quoted £45 ish each for both parts. You can get matching trim for around the base of the gear stick & ashtray.
