Seems my GTi has played the role of bumper car once or twice in it's life. The bonnet catch sits in a molded plastic piece that I think extends over the top of the headlights and mine is broken on the center piece that goes from the bonnet catch straight down to the sil below. What is this piece called ? Ideally I want a second hand replacement but I've searched and can't find anything and it doesn't help I don't know what people refer to it as. Thanks.

The plastic part across the bonnet catch and over the headlights is called the slam panel I think :happy2:

well.... my golf is on its third panel now.....lol so i've gotten quite good at sourcing them.... search for any variations of the following:
slam panel
front panel
radiator panel
radiator carrier
i've got a little 'directory' of breakers that ive come across who sell genuine ones removed from cars for between 60-120 a piece some even sell them complete with the bumper bars/foam inserts just depends what theyve got and if your willing to travel a little bit
if you decide to get a 'copy' or 'oem' panel make sure you check it over and please please please ensure that it has the metal lining already in place and dont make the mistake i did! i think euro car parts do the 'good' one which has the metal lining in place, some places do the cheaper plastic only one...
i would recommend hunting around for a used genuine one however.....
if you want those phone numbers shoot me a PM and i'll update this thread with them :) :happy2:
