I think this topic has been asked quite a few times so don't get mad, wanna get some xenon headlights but regarding mot issues I think it's best to get standard light bulbs to replace the yellow look factory items,What h7 bulb will give similar quality to a xenon Unit??Piaa?phillips?

				I have these H7 fitted >> http://www.powerbulbs.com/product/philips-blue-vision-ultra-h7-499-hid-car-headlight-bulbs

I also have these led sidelights fitted >> http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/error-free-leds/501-w5w/canbus-501-w5w-t10-13-high-power-smd-led-error-free-p-575.html

Although not as good as xenon , they are a very good upgrade from the standard bulb and the led sides are great  :happy2:

I had the Osram Nightbreakers for a few months, major improvement in vision over standard bulbs and slightly whiter (still yellowy though)... Recently changed to Mtecs as heard good reviews about them and were only £10, no yellow in these at all, look very nice. Pics in my build thread comparing Nightbreakers and Mtecs.

Before I wrote off my gt170 tdi I had some Piaa extreme white bulbs, slight touch off blue in them but expensive, might give the Phillips a go

-
Have a look at ring ultra xenon 120% bulbs, I not long had them in and they are a very good bulb

Xenons are legal without washers & levelling as of . . . . TOMORROW!  :star:

There was a thread on this a few weeks back - worth googling the new MOT standards  :happy2:
-
Don't mean to sound like a party pooper but your saying its legal to have xenons without auto levelling?? That's a joke, so it's gonna be ok driving round blinding people with xenons. Cant understand that new rule :stupid:

Xenons will still fail the MOT if they do not meet the beam pattern requirements... i.e. the wrong bulb is fitted / incorrectly adjusted.

On the other hand, the proper bulb (i.e. H7R for golf reflector headlamps) correctly aligned will not blind others, will pass the MOT just fine and will give a great improvement on the road  :happy2:

Thats what the new MOT requirements doc says  :happy2: the police will be pulling every berk with the levels set too high. . .

They look great. How do they compare at lighting up the road though?
-
Just looked on E-bay for the M-Tec bulbs, from what I see, I don't think they are E-Marked?

I got my Mtecs off ebay.  :happy2:

Not as great as the Osrams I must admit, cos they're a cooler colour, doesn't look as bright on the road but still a fine bulb if you're going for looks over vision.

I asked the seller before I bought them and they said they are road legal, also just looked on my bulb and is E marked. Says E13 as oppposed to E1 on the Osrams, not too sure what the numbers mean?  :chicken:

Edit: I went for the 55w bulbs, not the 100w. Got my mot on the 18th so will find out...  :scared:

-
Be interesting to see if they are really E-Marked, as I'd probably buy a set for myself lol

Also are your lights standard units or projector units?
-
I've just got standard lights. I did consider swapping my bulbs back just for the mot lol, but I wouldn't find out that way wether they're legal or not so I'm just going to leave them in.

Also did you say that the M-Tec bulbs don't light up the road as good as nightbreakers?
-
				Mandy,

Did these bulbs pass the MOT test?

Yes, the H7's passed, can't comment on the Mtec sidelights though as they weren't fitted at the time.
