I've had my Ed30 for nearly 6 months now and recently I asked my local VW dealer, Robinsons Norwich, to chase up getting a build plaque sent from VW UK. Only through shear persistence have I now got the ball rolling but with some interesting outcomes!? Firstly VW Norwich have given my the number to call VW UK to get my plaque issued? I thought the dealer does this so it is sent to them before you receive it? And, wait for it, VW Norwich have quoted a price of £170 for the plaque!!! I thought these plaques were free if never been issued against a car before? At most I'd expect a small charge if you were getting a re-issue, but £170 are they taking the p*ss!?
Can anyone share their experience in getting hold of their build plaque via their local dealer as I feel that I'm being taken for a ride here!
Thanks.

£170! That's disgusting. How they have the nerve to quite that price to you is amazing. They might as well have punched you in the face.
Just goes to show they aren't called Stealers for nothing.
-
Providing they were never issue to the car originally then there should be no charge.
-
As long as a plaque has never been issued there is no charge. I was lucky as the previous owner allready had the plaque.
I'm sure the best way to go about ordering one is to go straight to vw and not the stealers.
To be quoted £170 is a complete joke.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks 170 quid is beyond extortionate! Well I guess the next step is contact VW UK and seeing what the crack is. If there's evidence to suggest that the plaque has been issued already then I would expect to pay a 're-issue' fee of around 20 quid, as all it is, essentially, is a piece of stainless steal with a number printed on it. However from the way VW Norwich were talking suggested it has never been issued to the car, therefore making it free?
I must say dealers do make me laugh because if you buy a brand new 'expensive' car they can't do enough for you, as when I bought a Scirocco back in Jan '09, buy a approved used car and they don't care. They don't seem interested at all.
That said I still remain confident that good ones still exist.

I am shocked to hear that you have been mucked around like that because my plaque was ordered and sent to me after a week after asking for it. They told me that it would cost me £250 if my car had already been issued one, which is disgusting!! You will have to be out of your mind to pay that sort of money for the plaque, even though it is a nice touch. Have they told you your number??

By-pass your VW dealer and call VW Customer Service. Ask to speak to Jenny regarding the golf gti Edition30 plaques.
-
If it hasn't been issued its sitting there waiting to be issued. Mine took less than a week from the first phonecall , sent a copy of my V5 and hey presto it was delivered. I am sure they will tell you whether they have it or not. What number is yours by the way...add it to the build number thread :happy2:

Where do we add our numbers to for the ed30?? I will add mine.....1275.

Sh*t the bed, £250! Robbin' buggers!
I'll get on the phone to VW UK tomorrow and let you know what they say. Thanks for the responses.
Horatio - Thanks for the contact, I'll try that and see if it brings me any joy? Shall I give your name as I guess you know her? If so, what is your name?
Cheers Pete.

As above, call customer services. I didn't get round to it for a few years! Called them up and it was sent within a week. They even left a message to tell me the build date and build number!
-
I got mine and then they sent me another one by accident with another cars number on :rolleye:

There has been a few threads on this already one thread had a telephone number of the woman you need to speak to in VW customer services.
The lady and number is Jenny at VW customer services on 0844 375 4625 (taken from another thread using the search function) :happy2:
It's been said a few times before that if the plaque has been provided previously there is a charge for a replacement.

Slight update - Spoke to Jenny at customer services this morning and gave her the car's chassis number so she could run a quick check to see what the build number was (No 1439) and to see whether a plaque had already been issued. It turns out it was issued to the previous owner, which was the owner from new but Jenny explained that VW no longer manufacture these plaques, so she has raised a 'case' with someone in Milton Keynes to see if anything can be done as I have no way of getting the first issued plaque back. I will also add that Jenny is extremely helpful and if anyone else is thinking of getting their build plaque sorted call her on the number above.
I'm now waiting a response from Milton Keynes to see whether anything can be done, fingers crossed.

In addition to my last post, I received a phone call back from Jenny and they're sending me a plaque out recorded delivery today, so should get it this week!
How on earth VW dealers have the cheek to charge customers vast sums of money for these is beyond me!? There was absolutely no mention of a charge for sending this plaque directly to me when speaking with Jenny, bizarre!?
Glad it's all sorted now anyway. Thanks to everyone for your help, much appreciated :happy2:
Now where to put it...?

I used to use Robinsons VW Norwich however i too soon learnt that they are definitely stealers and not a dealer :fighting:
I now use Robinsons Lowestoft, which ive been very impressed with so far :jumpmove:
Glad you look like you have finally got it sorted :happy2:
