ok..
Ive read and read.. and googled and googled.. and i am slightly wiser.. but still not 100% on it.. :ashamed:
This whole remapping stuff, im kinda there with, theres 2 stages.. but whose best to do this, company wise???
Exaust, what am i bette going for???
Chipping. I've read somewhere that theres a few companies to do this, what am i best going for???
And, im a cosmetic modder, so this engine stuff is all new to me ( :ashamed: ) but, what order should I be doing stuff in???
I'm not rolling in it money wise, so money dependant on all this...lol
thank you for any help, am sue ive made a few ppl giggle.lol :P

Wheres that signiture Caz!!, cheery doing one for you?? ..
sorry i cant answer your question about Remapping as im the worst bloke to answer that. :ashamed:
-
lol cherry is in the know, not sure bout cheery..lol
..im jst debating whether to wait to take a pic when side skirts are on..lol may be a week yet.lol
and no worries on questions.. you may learn something like me... if someone replies... :ashamed:
-
Remapping / Chipping - same thing. A whole raft of companies: APR, Revo, GIAC, Superchips. All reputable and good.
Exhaust - no idea, you have a diesel don't you? May be worth investigating an exhaust that removes the DPF to get the best performance gains - and then getting software tuned to this. IIRC, Revo offer something...
That was probably not helpful, but the best that I can do!

You get what you pay for but i would personally lean towards APR for the map and Miltek for the zorsticles
and cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery is more than happy to do you a sig as you are now and another when you mod
-
I would recommend you do things in following order if you're looking for increase in power.
1. Brakes
2. Remap
3. Intake + Exhaust (Milltek is one most go for)
4. Clutch (budget for one)
5. Cosmetic stuff if you must.
Remap / Chipping is same kinda thing really, except most companies now Remap via OBDII port rather than "chip" a ECU (taking it out, soldering new chip onto the ECU)
Options...loads out there. Revo / APR / Superchips / Custom Code / Chipped UK / R Tech / GIAC / AmD / APS list goes on!
Most are similar really, some you get to play with settings yourself, can turn it back to standard performance etc.
Some are cheaper than others. Some are more renowned than others.

cheers for that WhiteGTi.. any help input is useful, as I know nothing really.lol (i may work in service department, but its still all new.lol) I know at the end of the day its your own choice with companies etc on where you get things done, but there doesnt seem to be one paticular company that everyone agrees on..
Top Cat - good plan.. i will contact cherry or cheery and get him on with it.. (and ask him in a week to change it.lol bless.) :chicken:
-
Caz, where are you based in the UK???
If you're down sarf....go to JKM!!
-
Im afraid I am a northern bird.. in the sticks to be exact.. have to travel a hour to get anywhere decent (decent being dare i say it.. Hull, or 'Ull, if you live there...) :ashamed: :chicken:
Think Ill go remapping first..ive jst been hesitant, as Im basicaly jst playing with this car for another 2 years, then changing... and also, ive been told that if you remap, you can loose vw settings and if put on diagnostics it may not show up your ecu... spoke to techies at work and they said chipped/mapped cars weve had in theyve read fine.. but jst was unsure..
Mr Cheery, as your no known, thanks.. i'll let you know :happy2:

If its a diesel and its a 170bhp GT then In my opinion from owning a 170dpf engined car I would get an aftermarket panel filter like K&N, ITG then if you like cosmetic mods then buy a milltek mk5 gti rear box this fit onto your existing pipework ok, no performance gains but will look better. Yous could also check out a Co called Tunit they do a plug and play unit for the 170's taking it to roughly 200bhp so will save on your DPF unit.If you need to change your brakes then R32 would be fine for 200bhp as would the stock ones Iam sure.then chuck on some Eibach sportlines for a 30-40mm drop :happy2: but thats just me.
-
Its a 140 I have..
but im guessing everything you said there is still do able..
cheers for that input. :happy2: will check out that Tunit company..
on golfgti forum theres a company called r tech power that do remaps, anyone on here had dealings with them?
-
i had my gttdi remapped took-it was the best decision i made, your standard clutch should be ok,not had r ec on any of my cars but i have heard good things about them

If you can wait till June you will pick up some good discounts at GTI International, the tunit kits are norm discounted there.

ok - so youll all be happy to know i cant get a dv for my diesel..
so.. its air filter time.lol any ideas? options? makes? models? specs? lol
-
a Lot of people swear by the ITG panel filter, personally i used the K&N panel filter, pipercross and green cotton are also good.
-
never heard of ITG..
cool, well ill prob go with pipercross or k&n..
thanks mr keith! :happy2:

If you're not going crazy and just want a common or garden remap (circa 190-200bhp I think) , then just get a Bluefin off Superchips. Whoever you get though, ask them to tweak the torque down to 280-290lb/ft and you'll have no clutch slip issues
With the Bluefin you can switch the map off and on, and better still, when you come to swap cars they can either re-code it for the new one or reset it to 'as new' it so you can sell it on again... so you get a return on your remap, rather than losing the money all together.
A panel filter such as green/ITG/Pipercross will do you fine. An exhaust will just be asthetics/noise - I doubt you'll see any power increase unless you get a decat downpipe too.
R32 stoppers will be fine, just get the handling tweaked and you're golden!
-
Cheers Mr Danza! :happy2: Im not wanting to go crazy, cause ill be trading it in in a year and half..
techies at work mentioned the bluefin thing.. may look into that..
have been looking at a milteck exhaust..
-
i get all my work done at APS www.autops.com there brilliant people and i wouldnt go anywhere else for my work on the car. they seem to really know what there doing. might be a little far for you though
-
Bluefin gets my vote too for flexibility and ease of use on a mildly modded car.
-
:happy2: cheers.. think will look more into the bluefin option, then i can take it with me when get new car.. yeah? ....

:happy2: cheers.. think will look more into the bluefin option, then i can take it with me when get new car.. yeah? ....
If you get another car that uses the same 'plug' i.e. VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat .... you can get the unit reset to work with your new car and then pay a smaller amount for the maps as you already have the Bluefin unit - or at least I think I am right in saying this .....

OBDII is a standard connection across most current cars, it's not VAG specific. Reset is quite pricey but does work out cheaper than a new handset.

You might want to have a look at Chipped Uk's ST3. If you can pick one up on a group buy on any of the VW, Audi, Seat or Skoda forums you'll pay about £300 and you get two maps. New maps for you new car are only £100 each.
I had an 2.0tdi 140 audi and I initially went for economy and race - economy was circa plus 28 bhp and plus about 4mpg, race was about 195 bhp but was too smoky for me so they gave me fast road instead - much better for road use.
The Economy map will give you a much smoother power curve and better mpg than a standard 170, easily as quick and nicer to drive without the big torque spike.
The Fast road map is more exciting than economy, but still slightly smoky (not uncommon with powerful mapped diesels) - either map will make your car capable of 'suprising' many on the move, will also put a big grim on your face
