Title: Carbon Fiber Mirror Covers
Post by: Peskarik on April 19, 2009, 10:52:49 am
White Edition 30, black wheels,  :jumpmove: scratched right mirror cover.
I think I am ready for some carbon fiber mirror covers now.

Seibon makes them, but are there suppliers closer to home (Switzerland)? Like in Britain or Germany?  :drinking:

Anyone here fitted carbon mirror covers?
What's the price?

If I had the dow, I'd carbon fiber the whole car.   :jumping: But that   is just daydreaming.

Mirror covers are fine for now. I like my car in white. The only thing I also consider is Oettinger rear bumber (the one that has black stripe in the middle, like on their www.oettinger.de page)

that's my favorite bumper:

I don't know specifically about those on eBay but IIRC someone got some and they weren't exactly as advertised!

OSIR's carbon products are all available from the TTshop 01234 855 555 (Abi or Justin) but are very costly due to the foreign exchange rate. OSIR are in Hong Kong. Their mirrors are replacement covers not wrappings.

You could wrap your whole car in carbon vinyl for about £1,500 - Read my Review on carbon vinyl interior.

Hope This Helps,
RR

Replacement covers much better than stick over.

Unless perhaps if you were carbon vinyl covering other exterior body parts, then a more consistent match would be better.

If you want to see how good some carbon vinyls can be, check out my thread here : -

They have taken originally black covers, put a layer of carbon on it, baked it, and then clearcoated it. Fits as an original and imo looks great with inpro darkened turning lights.

Still not decided on this....

£97inc p&p for the replacement mirror covers (can resell later)
£95 for Carbon look vinyl wrap... one use can't resell.

Have to say, leaning towards the mirror covers and a saturday mornings work.

Thats true... but...
Someone would need to look a lot closer at the splitter/rear skirt than they would at the mirrors.

I think the red weave looks ok Phil but on a car like hurdy's, what i mean by that one that is heavily modded, as daft as it sounds the normal carbon looks more understated and will suit yours more with the few subtle mods you have done.
dont forget to tell the wife it can be easily removed in the future if she cant live with it.

oh ive tried Tc but feels like im talking to a wall at the moment. Ive emailed Racoon to see if they have such a design, and any photos they may have as i forgot to ask when i was there the other day.
Shes addiment a full respray is the Only Option because anything like any sort of CF wrap wont suit a red car
She doesnt see things that (we) consider as being Suttle and not too over the top as she see's it.

Post by: CocoPops on April 28, 2009, 10:16:17 pm
Thats why I'm umming and aaarghing about the mirrors...

The "real" things are the same price as the vinyl. When I say real, they are black plastic OEM mirrors with a real CF cover baked and laquered.

So I could still swap them over when I change my mind or something.

The vinyl for the splitter and rear skirt is a no brainer.  :happy2:

Phil - have you considered the CF vinyl wrap with a transparent red tinted film/vinyl over the top of that to create the red effect? Might be worth enquiring as to whether Raccoon could do this?

Title: Re: Carbon Fiber Mirror Covers

....

I expect that Raccoon could print red onto the slightly textured carbon vinyl.

My guess is that if a transparent red tinted film/vinyl exists, it would result in a very muddy looking 'red' when applied over the carbon black which sometimes looks grey in certain light conditions.

But Raccoon are the best people to advise. :happy2:

Ok so ever the diplomat lets put it to the vote, far from wanting to be "controlling" I am more interested in asthetics and what is pleasing to the eye. In my mind a red car with a BLACK bonnet would look like nothing more than half way to the A Team bus, but who am I?
I appreciate the car for what it is and how it looks. Its not your average V-dub its an Edition 30 if it was mean't to have a Black Bonnet it would have come out of the factory with it! but anyways all those in favour of Phylis's bonnet being swathed in a sheet of black plastic say I, all those who reckon she looks great just as she is say Nay.
IMO I think she would look great with the mirrors, splitter etc done and maybe some black alloys, but again I am only the controlling nag who wants to stop Phil from having his "space"  :indifferent:

Most would go ahead and get this done regardless so give him some credit for including you in the decision.

I can't say I consult with my wife when Im gettin things done but she knows how much I love my car and wouldn't do anything to it that wasn't reversable if it didn't look 'right'!  :happy2:

Don't you trust your husband's judgement, Mrs Mcavity?

It's not for us lot to decide for you - We can only say what each of us individually would do.

Personally, I wouldn't have the bonnet black vinyl'd. My bonnet on a red GTI is real carbonfibre and I painted the outside. So, it's obvious that I'm a "Nay" - Leave it as is or if you're that bothered by chips, get a clear protective shield like illyun's.

Now, I like the ebay mirrors, but I can't help noticing the weave doesn't wrap all the way around the cap, like Hurdy's. I think this looks a touch scruffy. Obviously there's a big difference in price, but I'd edge towards wrap in light of this.

This offer is open to anybody after i have given Phil first refusal, as i feel sorry for the the dude, this situation is heading for tear's and i think it will be Phil's.  :chicken:

So Phil i dont know what the cost is for you to get it done darn sarf but if it works out cheaper to have a drive up to Leeds, then one person ie you can have it done for a nominal fee, basically cost £20 or £30 squid so work out how much it cost's you in juice and let me know.

Tony D, the wing mirrors are being wrapped like Hurdys around the inside aswell and not just the outa shell  :happy2: so fingers crossed for a good outcome.

Cheers for the cheap offer TC and that is extremily kind matie. But Wrap and Bonnet are deleted from my Vocab currently, so back to the drawing board and ill come back to that later.

Welcome back.

Look, it's just a car, dont go giving yourself a hard life for the sake of a bit of metal!!

If the wrap works like Hurdy's, then I'd deffo go for that over the ebay ones... I'd source a set of mirrors off ebay and have them done though, so you can put yours back on come sale time and flog the wrapped ones. There'll always be a good market for them.
