Just wondering really... ive had 2 MK5s and both have had dodgy CC stalks. :stupid:

The early ones were gash.
I had one done under warranty on my first Skoda but all my subsequent cars have been fine.
-
Early as in 2004/5?
-
SWMBO has a 2004 SE, the indicator stalk had a mind of it's own (the wrong indicator flashed at times :stupid: ) but the CC still worked perfectly.
I replaced the stalk last year(?) and it has been perfect since :happy2:
-
Never had a problem so far with mine but it was retro-fitted last year so not as old as the car itself

Old style stalks or newer style with speedo dial symbol on stalk?

No it was a 2006 car without the speedo symbol on the stalk.

Mine is playing up nearly every journey now, time to take the steering wheel off i think :sad1:

I was just about to start a new topic about this, I have CC which I retro fitted in both cars, recently I have experienced the same problem Martin (Gizmo68) has mentioned in the Golf. And then last week, in the vRS the CC wouldn't work. However on the return journey it was fine! Yesterday I had it on for about 50 miles with out incident, then on the way home from Brands Hatch it was on and working fine until I touched the - button to reduce speed, at this point it went off and wouldn't turn on again, but when I turned the ignition off and on it was fine...... :stupid:
I wondered about giving it a clean, but it's only been on a few weeks and it was a brand new stalk.
Edit: Is this a good cleaner? - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_255223_productId_195717_langId_-1?cm_mmc=Shopping-_-Google%20Product%20Search-_-Car%20Care%20%26%20Maintenance%2FEngine%20Oils%20%26%20Car%20Fluids%2FLubricating%20%26%20Penetrating%20Oil-_-Halfords%20Electrical%20Contact%20Cleaner%20400ml&source=shopping (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_255223_productId_195717_langId_-1?cm_mmc=Shopping-_-Google%20Product%20Search-_-Car%20Care%20%26%20Maintenance%2FEngine%20Oils%20%26%20Car%20Fluids%2FLubricating%20%26%20Penetrating%20Oil-_-Halfords%20Electrical%20Contact%20Cleaner%20400ml&source=shopping)

It was an accepted issue with 05 ish cars and there was a TSB about it.

TSB?
Both the cars are MY2007 but the CC stalks are new, do you think cleaning will sort the problem on the vRS?
-
Technical Service Bulletin.
If your stalks are new take them back as they'll covered under new parts warranty.
The cleaning just prolongs the agony.

Useful link eddie :happy2:

Not had a problem with the CC stalk but both mine and the Mrs' have a intermittent fault on the wiper stalk...
-
I've seen the wiper stalk fault a few times but it doesn't appear to cause the same level of problems as the CC ones.

Surely this must apply to the A version stalks and not the newer G versions?

Yes the TSB applied to earlier stalks Eddie but the newer F or G versions shouldn't have failed if they were new and so should be warranted.
If the cruise control intermittently stops working or does not work at all when driving Octavia II vehicles at a constant speed, it is necessary to check the fault memory of the steering column control unit (Address group 16)
If fault code 00895 – “Cruise Control Switch – E45-faulty sporadic“ is stored in address group 16, the cruise control switch is to be replaced according to the Octavia II Workshop Manual (Binder 2, Chapter 94-7, Page 3).
The part number of the cruise control switch has not been changed. Only modified switches are available from spare parts stock.

Had the old style retro fitted on our old Leon Cupra and never missed a beat, not had any issues with the Eddy or SWMBO's MK6 either.
-
just noticed that my retrofitted 'old' style stalk on my mk5 is being a bit intermittent, will scan it for codes tonight...
is the only 'guaranteed' method to fix it swapping out the stalk for the later 'G' revision?
thanks

If you have one thats failing then yes IMHO swap it out.
