Has anyone used a Lamin X light smoked tint on their headlights to give the look of the GTI lights? i've just sent my GT TDI to the body shop to get the facelift front bumper and grills fitted but have the original silver headlights in until i can get hold of some xenons or similar looking projector headlights.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
-
Not seen it on a Gti, but plenty of guys on Briskoda have smoke tinted the vRS lights.
-
How do they look mate? i just don't want to be running around with the standard lights looking like they do, they doesn't suit the GT facelift in my opinion. Not wanting anything too dark though.
-
Did my RS6 in light smoke

2012 MOT laws should screw this one for us  -
Products on the lens or light source that obviously reduce the light's intensity or change its colour will become a reason for failure – applies to front/rear position lamps, registration plate lamps, stop lamps, rear fog and direction indicators,

-
I wouldn't be concerned, my DRL's are wrapped in smoke tint and the light output is no different.
-
I'll give it a go, my MOT isn't due until summer anyway, hopefully by then i'll have some new units. Does anyone know any good places to buy the 6% Tint film pre cut from in the UK?
-
This is the Lamin-X "Tint", although now they seem to call it "Subtle Tint"...

Hope that helps!

Oh, also, i wouldn't buy the pre-cut Lamin X that you can get from Lamin-X USA. I'd just get the sheets of it from their UK website and then cut it to shape once you've got it on the car with no air bubbles/issues!

Thanks for the pics and advice mate. Car looks great, at least now i know the film will look good and not out of place! Much appreciated :happy2:
-
These are my maxpower lamin-x lights. Everyone was saying not to get the pre-cuts so i did anyway and they seem fine? Perfect fit aswell :booty: :booty:

Ive had 3 attempts at doing Mk5 headlights now and won't be trying again. First time was with uncut film and second was using precut templates. It's an absolute nightmare to do without getting air bubbles.

Yep original laminex both times. I've wrapped quite a few car parts before which were a walk in the park in comparison. Roughly spent £70 in total and it's all ended up in the bin
-
When id done mine one side did have quite a few bubbles in but the laminX will settle after a few days/weeks anyway so all gone now! :happy2:
-
Yeah there will be airbubbles when you've just fitted it, then after a week or two they will disappear.
I just found that there was less margin for error with the pre-cut ones, as you had to position it perfectly whilst also trying to lay it well, whereas with a sheet you could just cover the whole lens with the film (easy) then focus solely on laying it without any bubbles.
-
Yes mate totally agree! Have to line the pre cuts up bob on otherwise its peel it off and start again and thats where it gets messy!!
-
tint on heads and fogs, just take your time when fitting and it'll be fine :happy2: Mines been on for a couple of years now, must also add a bit of protection to the lights???

any ideas on what size sheet is needed per headlight anyone?

I ordered the 12x24" sheets. Happy with the look, and managed to cut a square from each for fogs.(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F13%2F12%2F28%2Futugu5us.jpg&hash=0405620d393ff69830732c451f0a461517bfb186)
