Title: Le noob
Post by: john a on January 07, 2012, 12:29:57 pm
Morning all, I don't own a Mk5 GTI but I have an Octavia vRS TFSI and the wife has a Mk5 Diseasel so if I get the angle grinder out, I'm sure I can cobble one together - sort of!

I've signed up as it's one of the highest ranked posts I found when looking for info on how to add in an RCD510DAB - I want to get one each into the both the Skoda and the wife's Golf and there's a good thread that I've found that almost completes my search for info.

Cheers!

Cheers Andy.
I am determined to get the RCD510DAB fully functional in the Skoda then I'll stick one in the Golf!

Welcome! Recently installed an RCD510 DAB myself - wicked piece of kit! Haven't hot around to sorting out to get the DAB working yet, so will be tracking your progress

That's a shame, I'm trying to nick the ideas off somebody who's done the hard work

I think the most simple solution is to retrofit an aftermarket aerial and use some kind of a diversity adaptor.
I might take the Skoda apart at the weekend and see if I can track down the audio connections.

Yeah I wondered about that but seemed a bit of work, and cost. I was wondering if just a DAB aerial plugged into the stereo then positioned somewhere near the front screen or pillar may work, and just leave the original aerial as is?

Yeah it would, either a discrete glass mount or some other hidden solution (I did wonder if one of the old GSM tax disc holder aerials would do the job).

The solution I looked at was a combined AM/FM/DAB aerial for about 50 quid, but I am assuming some kind of twin Fakra adaptor would suffice.

Hmm intersting idea that one- the tax disc holder, some more research me thinks

My only reservation on using an aftermarket aerial is will the function of diversity be compromised with a splitter. I may move this conversation over to the audio section if there is one!
