I had the car remapped just before Christmas and finally got round to fitting the VWR CAI today. The remap makes the car a different thing to drive anyway, so much smoother under acceleration and obviously quicker at the same time.
The CAI just helps the car to get more air into the system and again improves the performance no end. Throttle response is awesome! Pretty straight forward to fit, bit of a pain getting the turbo hose off (as im sure a lot of people have found out themselves ) but other than that no dramas really. Looks great & sounds great when you really push the car but at the same time doesn't attract any attention when pottering round town. I'm a sucker for VW anyway so love that fact it keeps in line with the brand.

-
Ha, yeah maybe Nathan but then I'd have had nothing to do apart from clean it
The kits great btw, nice clean look to it once it's fitted!
-
very nice :happy2:
any dynos? cost ?
would be great to see more data as per previous reviews please :pomppomp:
(btw : is there a clip missing next to the MAF sensor?)
-
Not been on dyno just yet but soon I think. When i do ill get something on here.
Broke the clip as i was tightening it up so took a couple of pics before i went and got another one
The RRP's £456 inc.vat from VWR's site.

Not cheap is it :signLOL:
-
Certainly not the cheapest one no, but very well constructed and fits brilliantly. I preferred it over some of the others due to sitting nicely in the engine bay and not cluttering it up.

Doesn't need to go on a Dyno John o, we all know she's a brute!

Then the vwr logo adds an extra 150 quid! :P
Are itg doing this kit just for racingline or is it available elsewhere?
Looks like a good kit. How does the little rubber strap mount?
-
You can only buy from Vwr I think as itg made it for them
-
I honestly don't think that looks great considering the price. Could have got a hand fab'd BDM one for a lot less.

Fook me.
That lettering must be in Platinum.

I believe they call it VWR tax. Take a part built by someone else and add 40% . They did it with enine mounts as well iirc

They also do it with the VWR panel filter, too....

Luckily the mounts are available from any vibratechnics dealer now.

x2.
But they must have lots of customers who don't mind paying the premium or else they wouldn't sell any!

I saw the actual kit in ITG when went there a month ago. A few interesting things that may justify the costs, they anodize the aluminium whereas ITG powder coat. This means it's a lot more expensive and it's harder to get a flawless finish, apparently quite a few have to be redone or throw away as VWR won't take anything less than perfect. So in a way it seems the higher cost might be more justified. I quite like this kit over the Maxogen as is a true cold air intake that is pretty well protected from heat soak. Still a pricey bit of kit compared to the £180 Neuspeed one

"Looks like a good kit. How does the little rubber strap mount?"
Cheers VrsAlex, yeah the strap is mounted to area at the bottom of the battery box, there's a screw thread just on the corner and the kit fits directly onto that mount.
Andy.

....The photos of it posted in the original post have either been moved or deleted. As this is a review surely they need re-posting, otherwise no-one can see what the product looks like.
-
Cheers Robin, absolutely no idea why they've gone. I'll get them back on here as soon as I can.
Andy.

Looks good fitted, nice and neat and not too blingy but seriously £456?

So, is the canister/filter exactly the same size as the ITG one for the Mk6??: http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=24610&xSec=1095 (http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=24610&xSec=1095)

Wonder how quick APR/VWR will tie up a deal with ITG for that one too and bung another £180 on the price :signLOL:

Not quick enough - I bought one yesterday before they got to it. Aha!
-
^^^^ now all you need is a VWR sticker :signLOL:
-
:D lol it crossed my mind!
My TSI ITG intake arrived today. The circumference of the filter canister is exactly 50cm. I expect that will be the same as the VWR.

Pretty sure your local Vinyl shop could cut one of those for about £3 :happy2: and you still save £177 :signLOL:
-
VWR what a god dam rip off !

Got rid of my ITG open filter (didn't like darth vadar in glovebox) and bought one of these and fitted few weeks back.
Well what can I say no suck on acceleration what so ever. Deeper exhaust note, which is great! Still chatters on demand like my old ITG so another bonus. Great bit of kit.
Even bigger bonus it feels even quicker than with my old ITG.
All round thumbs up. Got it for same price as ITG open one as well.
All in all well worth it for anyone thinking of going for it.
