Title: JKM Rolling Road - 11th February 2012....

^ Like the poster says: 2WD only = Strictly no 4WD whether switchable offable or not! Thanks ^

JKM have decided not to run any 4WD cars on the dyno anymore. Although the Haldex unit can be disconnected to run, it just gets too hot and is not advisable to do for Dyno Runs. The power reading is not a true reflection on the car when they run in 2WD mode. So in the interest of protecting the components on the 4WD cars JKM will not be running them on the dyno.

Please post if you are seriously interested in attending   :happy2:

Don;t think my clutch will be done by then, and no point with a slippy clutch and reduced settings, but hopefully the one after this I will be at...

I'm on my 10 day rota then, but it is an awfully long way to go just for a dyno day.

I'll have a think on this one. Could stop over I suppose.

I may well try and pop down. Be nice to meet people.  Is there any point putting a stock 08 GTi on ?  Is it worth checking the car has the 197 BHP it was born with still ?

Mines stock and before I went to the last meet at JKM (my 1st RR day) I had changed a split dv and the Pcv and was running 197.4bhp on the day iirc. Worth it in my opinion as you know everything is sound and it was a good meet last time

I'm in - 'twas a good meet last time out  :happy2:

Fancy a convoy down again?

....You'd be very popular if you did dyno your stock GTI - It gives everyone a comparitive datum for the day.

Apart from the social aspect, the main reason I regularly dyno is as a health diagnostic. JKM are experts on the 2.0T FSI.

okay I'm interested. Is there still a spot left ?

....Certainly. Shall I add you to the list?

No alexperkins - I thought he'd be along to clear superchips' name after the surprise they dealt him last time.

....If I start a 'maybe' list, those on it will have to understand that if the 'definites' list reaches its max of 30, then the 'maybees' will not be able to dyno. So 'maybees' are a reserve list.

If your unhappy with your JKM results, iirc the correct method is to immediately go to another rolling road where the car is strapped nice and loose so it isalmost coming off the rollers(remember to blame it on the shear power), then post up videos of it on here to prove that DD rollers underread because you now make 50hp more.

.
PLEASE NOTE:

We now only have 6 spaces left on the dyno and 6 listed as Maybees, so anyone adding their name to the Maybees may not get a ride on the bhp roller coaster. Also, each new dyno list name from now on will knock out a Maybee's chance of a ride.

Of course, inevitably one or two folks might not turn up on the day.

I'll join people for the drive up...... provided the start time doesn't erode my sleep! The time before last I recall a hilariously early start time from B'stone was mooted!

I hope mine doesn't make much - it'll keep my insurance down! I hope the dyno is reading super low in fact! :P

....And also so that JKM can arrange the order so that there's a minimum of shifting how the rollers and system is setup. It helps JKM to help us by giving us as accurate relative data as possible.

Only joked as you guys remapped my A3 TFSI a few years back. I remember being at a RR day at yours with the S3 guys at the time, and there seemed to be a little rivalry based on comments from the guys attending.

In all honesty, having experienced both Regal & JKM, i can say that the service at both is excellent and the south coast tuning scene is in good hands. Unlike being based 15 mins from AmD  :scared:

Nath, for the sake of others not yet on the list who might still want a dyno run, please confirm as soon as possible - Like in the next 24hrs  :happy2:

Quite a few of the MKV "original crew" going then now :jumpmove:

Do we need a decent local pub & grub place for after?

I'm up for an after RR Beer soft drink and grub stop. Anyone else in?

1. Hurdy - Pie and chips man!

First (I think) forum dyno-day at JKM:

Some of us BIALI Boyz are meeting up locally for a pub lunch nearby at Portchester (up on the hill overlooking Portsmouth).
Folks are most welcome to join us but it's popular and we need to book enough seats.

There is the Inn Lodge Hotel Portsmouth which is about 5 mins from us, which is OK if you want close by or there is the Holiday Inn in Gunwharf Quays which is a good base for the weekend, not sure on prices though.

The mk2 is currently off the road pending some brake and engine work and the only time I have to do it is Saturday, plus I need to budget for it so the forking out for fuel/rolling road isn't practical at the moment.

Who among you is running a stock (OEM factory) unmodified GTI map? And also a stock (OEM factory) unmodified Ed30 map?

I ask so that those cars can be dyno'd first in their group to then give everyone a relative datum for remapped cars. So, for example, if a stock GTI dyno's 210 bhp instead of the factory 200 bhp we then know that a 280 bhp car should strictly be 270 bhp. This is not an exact science but I'm sure you know the principle.

....I know exactly what you mean - I've convoy'd with those same three dudes from The 'Ring! They had different cars then though.

They're actually quite sensible but there'll be the occasional spurt when the conditions allow, and then quickly followed by the sudden realisation that it might not be a good idea to continue for too long that way!

....Should be fun!

Unless you tell me otherwise I'll assume he's not wanting to dyno his car.

Ah fair enough. I'm doing my fuel filter tomorrow in an effort to cure a bit of stuttering in 6th at low revs. Fingers crossed.

Looking forward to JKM now  :pomppomp:

Hi All,

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you all here tomorrow for what looks to be a great RR event.

For those of you concerned about the weather here, we only had a very light dusting of snow over night, most of which has vanished this morning

It looks to be a cold but very sunny day tomorrow, with none of the nasty white stuff :)

The bourbons are ready in the biscuit tin, and the Tea urn will be boiling away from about 8.45 so see you all tomorrow

John (Monsieur Hurdy), methinks you ought to swing by SteveP's and convoy down together! That's CONVOY! not RACE!! *cough*

Hopefully Robin, Greeners, Hurdy, Steve and I should be convoying down together. I have a feeling my car is gonna arrive last!

....I know exactly what you mean - I've convoy'd with those same three dudes from The 'Ring! They had different cars then though.

They're actually quite sensible but there'll be the occasional spurt when the conditions allow, and then quickly followed by the sudden realisation that it might not be a good idea to continue for too long that way!

Just don't put Hurdy and Greeners on an open stretch of road together  :signLOL:

Another standard GTI has been on and made 193BHP running normal unleaded and Robin has just gone on

I thought the dd rollers applied a correction factor based on the temp andd air presure to factor out climatic conditions variation.

What has hurdys made????

K03 DSG Revo Stg-1, b8t5f9

 :surprised:
Thought you had the super dooper new Revo stage 2+ :stupid:

Nope - just stg1, set as above.

Jim (?) suggested wastegate issues, and that I should check for a crack in the turbo housing near the wastegate. He also said he'd bet that if I logged boost target versus actual there would be discrepancy. I've checked and there isn't, and the N75 isn't ever hitting 100% except when spooling at low revs, so I don't think there is a wastegate problem.

e.g:

revs      requested      actual
5400      1950      1920
5600      1890      1870
5840      1810      1830
6040      1730      1790
6240      1710      1740
6400      1720      1710
6560      1700      1700
6680      1050      1680

The car drives fine, so I'm inclined to ignore the dyno figures. Hell they theoretically make my insurance cheaper!

As a slight aside, I logged the g/s whilst on the dyno, and the car was consuming about 20g/s less than it does on the road.

Had a blast on the way down with Greeners, Hurdy, Stealth and Keith, but -11c in a car with very little interior isn't much fun though

My result, 348.4bhp and just over 340ftlb

great figures on JKM's rollers

How did the R-Tec cars do today did they manage their 330-360lbft or was itmuch less....

No excuses for the usual 'dyno reading low' at JKM today with stock cars making the correct stock figures (remember 200ps = 197hp)

R-tec cars were down on the torque figures produced at R-tech, but the bhp was with 1-2 bhp.

Not sure about you're second comment Sy - at, for example an AmD RR day, they will start with a standard car and (everytime i've been to one) it has made standard power. Then the high powered figures are laughed at

Great day fella's! Big thanks to Robin for organising and keeping things in check!  :congrats:

Didn't go on the dyno with the Pirelli but after the 'blast' down there this morning ( :driver:  ) I'm confident everything is running as it should!

Great to see some old faces and good to meet the new ones!  :happy2:

Just arrived back. Tired but it was a fun day. Didn't get much sleep befause I knew I had to get up early. Managed two hours. Cruise down was awesome. Twinkletoes' pocket rocket sounds awesome. Keith's APR reminded me of TEFF's. Steve's car seemed to just chomp up the miles AND fuel   Thanks for the shortbread. Must place some orders around Xmas! Was great to see Greener's car in the flesh. He knows it was as dirty as mine but just didn't show it because of its silver colour.

Thanks to Robin for taking us to The Churchillian. Great place to go after JKM meets in future IMO. Sinnin' Steve turned up eventually.

Dwaine, good to see you and your mate. Lemme know how you get on with the detailing stuff.

Was absolutely shattered driving back and had to take a 15 min nap!

Also spotted another GTI that I didn't recognise.

Whsts your spec

Can you get a full log of actual vs requested?

Yeah I will do at some point, on turbo logging rather than normal rate... though I've never tried that - does it make much difference??

Here's my car's attempt to draw table mountain with a power curve:

Tbh ignoring peak figures that's a strong graph. Strong midrange torque and a nice plateau of power.  An intake would give you a nice result

Just seemed strange that power dropped off after 5500rpm so steeply id have expected it to level if until 6500-6900rpm.  Even more so if you have an intake and intercooler.

Iirc Shootout mode allows the software to do the work alongside sensors, negating the chance of operator errors.  This is why you get very consistent figures between different dyno dynamics Rollers.  So the variations are only from strapping, what gear is used and what cooling fans

227bhp and 230lbft  :happy2: Lower than expected, but the way it is delivered and spread over a wide band shows how the wmi helps. Not too shabby for a 1.4 with just a zorst, map, intake and wmi. Next stage begins next week, Loba LO270 hybrid turbo, intercooler and another map.

And again thanks to everyone for organising the day and the drive down was immense

Graphs just for Janner.....

Gorgeous spread of torque of 225-230lbft held from 2500rpm all the way to 5100rpm and only dips below 200lbft just before 6000rpm
Power curve is lovely and smooth too and tops 200bhp at 4740rpmand still holds over 210bhp at 6800rpm

Shootout mode is extremely effective, but there are other factors to consider such as the rpm that the run starts, how the operator calculates the RPM reference ( the dyno needs the operator to input an RPM reference as a factor to calculate torque) you can use various methods such as inductive pickup, pulse feed from an injector or roller tacho. Roller tacho is the easiest and quickest. However if the operators rpm input is 200-300pm out this will cause low/high figures.

The most important thing is to be consistent, there are no definite right or wrong methods as such but if you stick with your chosen method you wont go far wrong. Dynos are tuning tools, not power comparison machines.

Cheers. The car certainly drives fine and checking through my VCDS logs I can't find anything wrong. No problem with boost, N75 duty cycle, missfires, temperatures..... Mechanically I'm not aware of any issues.

The only thing I can imagine is that a new filter is required, as currently fitted is an 18 month old GSF paper item. In the interests of science I'll change it and see what happens on VCDS g/s logs at the high end.

I wonder why mine made a 300lbft (very much transient) peak every time, yet the other K03 cars from memory were lower and flatter from 3000-4500rpm. How odd.

alackofspeed- is you car an early (2005) DSG ?
It is an 07MY car with a BWA engine.

May I enquire what the early gearboxes do differently to newer models?

.
My numbers were well down from the previous two JKM Dyno-Day sessions: From around 269 bhp to 244 bhp and the torque max down about 5 ftlb, but the curves okay. Air-Fuel Ratio plot was erratic and was beginning to get slightly erratic on my previous session last October.

I've always said that apart from the social and fun aspects of a Dyno-Day meet, it's a very important opportunity to check the health of your car. It's also partly why I always go to JKM - For consistency and because they know my car so well.

I'm not going to try and guess what's wrong but the worst case might be valves. The next move is to revisit JKM and for Jim to do some logs and then we'll take it from there.

The car drives well and performs and responds well too on the road, so no obvious signs of a fault.

Have you got an old dirty air filter.  Your curve looks like you would see some food gains at the top from an intake
This aimed at my pic Sy???Have an ITG fitted which is about 4 months old.Twintercooler is now on, and need the map tweaked to suit, but Jim at JKM didn't have time today.
Just seemed strange that power dropped off after 5500rpm so steeply id have expected it to level if until 6500-6900rpm.  Even more so if you have an intake and intercooler.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jkm.org.uk%2Fperformance%2FMisc%2FGallery%2Frollingroaddays%2FBRISKODA%252015%252011%252010%2FDyno%2520Graphs%2FXZJ.gif&hash=d4555f7bbc649d7d21c34217e2e9809f4d577106)
That said everones seems to be doing the same as well today so ignore me

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fpp302%2Fgarethbridgland%2Fimg001.jpg&hash=7e0239e810b6ac36f991eca30c3437c04bbdfc63)

Here's my graph from last time, when my earlier map was changed to Revo stg1 and the ITG was fitted. You can see how much my car liked the viezu map

From comparing from graph from yesterday to the above, i can see & understand what you're saying. Car doesn't feel any different to drive though.

Jim's comments on yesterday was that the car is running great, but map needs tweaking to accommodate the twintercooler.

Thor had very thoughtfully (such a sensitive giant!  ) brought along a bag of marshmallows for me to award to whoever I felt fit (that sounds wrong! Or very right!!) - Wheoever I felt it was appropriate to give to. The obvious choice was to Hurdy for coming the longest distance - All in one day too. But he doesn't like marshmallows, so I decided to give to the owner of the car which made the greatest bhp - In other words, the biggest willy waver

The prize went to SteveP:

I have'nt noticed ant problems as I usualy don't push the car too hard , but as you can see there is a loss of power around the 5500 rev range. The car went into engine management mode.
SteveP logged and it turned out to be a missfire on cylinder3.
Fingers crossed some new plugs will sort it...

Looking back at the service history they have never been changed. Car has 22000 miles on the clock and was completely standard when when I brought it.
However I have had revo stage1 for approx 7 months so i'm guessing new plugs are over due...

On an 08 plate and with just 22000 ish miles I would like to think a duff injector was'nt the issue , so a new plug change tommorrow will hopefully sort it.
After the plug change Ill go for a good old thrash and then let JKM log it to see if it has corrected the fault...

No... but i started to experience problems which was noted on a RR session at R-Tech. On one test my car was 10bhp down across the rev range, an could be felt on the road too, sometimes it felt really flat. Since changing plugs its been spot on.

I had the same thing at the last RR day - scored 278 ish and mis-firing higher up the rev range and the CEL light came on. I went home, scanned with VCDS and guess what....cylinder 3 misfire. A change of plugs and #3 coilpack to be certain a few weeks ago and the return visit on Saturday and all was back to normal.

Despite the recommendation of changing plugs every 40k, I am certain that they do not last this long reliably on my car. I also had the iridium plugs on before and got 20-something k out of them only.

It was good that Steve P was fitting the MFSW buttons around the back requiring VCDS and good that he was willing to help.

Hope the plugs sort out the high rev power dip.

Are JKM fitting the cooler temperature Iridium plugs?

.... x2  - It's also what JKM advise.

Just change plugs every 20k miles on a remapped 2.0T FSI car - It's a sensible maintenance plan.

I stand to be corrected but I seem to recall the OEM part number for the TFSi plug changed a while back to a colder plug.

....I know that the OEM plug did change but didn't know it may have been colder. However, by changing every 20k miles to the current OEM plug the question will be covered.  :happy2:

I agree regular changes are worthwhile, the OEM approved life is far too long IMHO.

I wish that was the same for the 1.4TSi.  These spit spark plugs out pretty much every 5k :fighting:  VAG say 20k though

Are you sure that's spark plugs the Homomobile needs and not new Butt plugs?  :booty:

There appears to be split opinion on what the best temperature plug is.

I was primarily curious which temp plug will be fitted, as another data point.

Very pleased with the results  :happy2:

Spec: K03 GTI with the following mods:

Very nice graphs there  :happy2: Exactly the sort of figures and curve you should get with a stage 1 remap.

R-Tecs dyno must over read torque a fair bit.  Thats 40lbft lower than you made up there isnt it?

Yes Sy is a bit lower, but I'm guessing any other dyno will over read against JKM's.

I'm pleased with how smooth the power & torque are, AFR is a bit up & down but it drives nicely so can't moan  :driver:

Seems to have made a bit more than the other Stage 1 K03's (I'd put that down to the pre-cat removal & K&N)

Not really.  Mine made less on a BAPRO dyno, the same on dynostar and consistently the same on all the other dyno dynamics rollers i have used.  its only when i start on dynojet, MAHA dynos that i start to get bigger figures

My rolling road reads about spot on when used correct..  You need to remember on site we have 2x rolling roads Bosch & V-Tech and 2x DD rolling roads on the estate which I used most days fro tuning, which means I dont chuck out wild power readings.

I am very happy with my stage1 custom remap results on JKMs rollings, but its easy to see where the torque has gone, why have they started the run at close on 2400rpm???

Not enough time for the ko3 to spool upto speed making the peak torqure higher in the rpm range 3300rpm less than 1000rpm for the turbo to full spool and hit peak load where the k03 can hit peak boost andf torque close on 2500rpm ???

I am still happy to claim 300+lbft.

If you look in the past JKM ran the dyno from 1500rpm and got higher peak torque numbers.

311lbft a run from 1600rpm and hitting load by 3100rpm as you can see where the N75 changes from spool up PID to post LDR  PID

In fairness to you, the pre cat removal has made a decent difference. Last time at JKM, a Revo Stg 1 made 236bhp, mine made 237bhp (on a stg 1 viezu map), and yours has run 241bhp - so i'd agree with your estimates of 5bhp extra from removing the pre cat.

Deffo need to get the hammer out now  :happy2:

The AFR is down to you still running the BTS lambda maps for component protection, I keep them in play for all TFSI maps with the CAT still in play, there are there for a reason I compromise on power to protect the engines hardware.  Just by going from 11.7:1 to 12.4:1 will give around 5-6hp on its own merits.  Get main CAT removed and you can run 13.1-12.4:1 across the board and more load request.  :driver:

Hello Everyone!

It was great meeting some of you at JKM.  Thanks for a good time.

It really seems like you guys and gals have a great group of enthusiasts going.

I apologize if I wasn't as talkative as usual for those that know me, it was cold, so cold for this Florida boy, and I was a little disappointed by JKM's heartbreaker of a dyno.

I look forward to the next meet and hope to get see more of you guys.

Go APR!

We always say, if you make good figures on JKMs rollers then you have a very good car.

Steves looked ALOT stronger throughout the entire rev range than all the K04s i have seen on there.

My car was 180hp standard.  Steves makes that at 3300rpm lol

Stage 4?? Lol surely someone must've noticed that was a typo due to the power output you got?? Lol

Will have to pop out and get this later, was wondering when it would be out.
