Title: Cancelling mobile phone contract
Post by: big al on January 11, 2012, 07:27:17 pm
Hi guys,
I have been on contract mobiles for about 10 years now.
Last time I had PAYG was when you paid for a scratchy card and put the code in through an automated service.

As I am sick of paying £35 a month for my contract I am going to end it next month when the 2 years is out.
I have an iphone 3gs, and want to buy a 4, then go to PAYG. I mainly use internet, but don't call many people, and do a little texting.
So the main thing I will be looking for is a good deal for free internet, or a fair bit of free browsing at least.

What networks or plans would you guys recommend I do in order to save around £20 a month off what my bills were?

Threes £15 sim only deal is very good. Giffgaff is also good value (but it uses O2 network).

What gets best signal in the areas you are likely to use your phone?

either:
http://giffgaff.com/goodybags/10pound-facebook-goodybag   GiffGaff is true unlimited internet

or:
http://phone-shop.tesco.com/tesco-mobile/simonly/IPhoneSimCard   Tesco do a 3month sim only contract for 12.50 a month, very good deal or £15 a month.

but id read:

Orange tend to have a good signal. Vodafone seems rubbish.

At home and work, I find the opposite

GiffGaff £10 a month goody bag is brill, 250 mins, unlimited texts and 'unlimited' data - just don't tether your phone

Just left Orange after 2 years and went to Vodafone. Much better signal all round my house, work, etc. so good signal in east Scotland.

I would say Three network would be your best bet for low price/high data usage. Vodafone also do iPhone specific sim cards at decent prices.

Please note, the above few comments (and mine) are not true PAYG sims. They are still pay monthly but for sim only. You should easily be able to get a sim card, on a 1 month rolling contract, for £15 or under. :happy2:
