:booty: So you won't be bringing the bath tub then? I'm looking forward to seeing that beast! :happy2:
-
Just checked the date, and i am booked on a day at the Lotus factory at Hethel on the Saturday which i think is a full day so might not be able to make it. :chicken: will have to check the itinerary.
-
Ahhhh but UD's is on the Sunday! You can come back up this way on your way home :drinking:
-
Yea! thats what i hope to do. :happy2:
-
Yea! thats what i hope to do. :happy2:
:happy2: be good to see you and the black beast!
-
The saturday is the best day, you can actually see the cars. :happy2:
-
That is very true, they always work late polishing and finishing bits off!
-
I'm still waiting for them to get bk to me but iv been told there holding a few spaces for "trailer queens" so may have to park both outside or level them at the hotel. Any1 no if there's a forum stand out side???
-
My wife and I will be there on the Scirocco UK/SciroccoNet stand which is outside I believe, with my mk2 and her mk3. Bit of a last minute decision really, I have to get the car roadworthy yet!
-
i will be there! whats best time to get there to avoid bad traffic and queing? ill be coming from leeds is anyone wants a drive down?
-
Traffic was pretty horrible a couple of years ago and I believe it was bad last year too. We've been told to turn up as close to 07:30 (!) as possible :surprised: But at least we should miss the majority of problems, the worst bit was finding somewhere to park IIRC.
-
I went last year and arrived around 0830. Queued until 0930 for tickets. Must've left around 1300-1400. Not much of a queue at that point but the carpark was chocka.
Unfortunately, work means I can't go this year. At this rate I'm gonna miss all the big shows.
-
Some people I know aren't going until midday, miss all the traffic, can park close to the show, and stay for presentations after.
-
Well after talking to many people iv managed to get a space on the VAG owners stand, now to decide what car to take. :happy2:
-
I will be attending the show for the first time, convoying down from Leicester with a few others
It'll be good to see some of the cars off of here :happy2:
Cheers
Ben
-
I be goin on sunday mornin with a few guys from winsford are there many people goin from the north west?

Im from the north west and will be going down (very early though )

Go on the ultimate dubs facebook page, or some local meets threads, there are convoys from most parts of the UK for this. :happy2:

you need to get there EARLY! lol we got there for about 8am (left slough at 5.30) we were one of the 1st people for the car park! which was a plus :)
yeah the stone chips are a bit of a headache! but when you can only do 70mph to get 35mpg! you save alot! lol
-
I use a bonnet bra or blue detailing tape on the front now whenever I go on long journeys, Doesn't look the best on the move, but the bonnet thanks you for it afterwards!
-
I can't go now had a accident last night on a43 and ripped my alloy to boys as other bits. So gotta pull out. Here a pic to look at.

I would normally pre-book. But only decided I was going last week. If anyone has a spare ticket I can buy send me a PM. ;)
-
Working now! :sad1:
My shift swap guy can't swap. Not having a good week!
-
I'm supposed to be going to this under the 'direction' of a mate and travelling up in his Corrado VR6. No tickets and not looking forward to a big queue. :sad1:
-
Is it too late to pre-book?
-
Is it too late to pre-book?
Yes. Considering the show is this Sunday!
Looks like ive managed to score a pair of tickets over on Ed38. :happy2:
-
Is it too late to pre-book?
If I were you fella I'd get there around lunchtime. Queue all bit disappears and you'll still have plenty of time for a wander!
-
Remember to bring your own food though.

Ultimate DUBS!! :-/
-
Any Skoda's?
-
8 hours of my life and £80 I'll never get back :stupid:

Well i had a good day. Some lovely dubs on show. Met up with some folks i know, some from here, some from Club GTI. Happy days and a great start to the show season. The burgers were a bit sh*t considering the cost though. 20p more on ingredients and a little more love in the making process, and they might have then been worth the cost of a whole McDonalds meal.
A few pics from today:

-
Sounds like it. TBH from last year's UD, I recognise a lot of the cars. Didn't see any pics of Nousey's car though.
-
Was a good show. Even the car park looked part of the show lol. The car that could set off the car alarm was amazing to watch.
-
I enjoyed it, was nice :happy2:
-
Any Skoda's?
Yup :signLOL:
Well I've just got back after a good day :happy2: Some seriously nice motors inside and outside just the matter of going through over 300 pics but I think they can wait until the morning :indifferent:
-
:worthless: :worthless: :worthless: :worthless:

Had a great couple of days and even better to catch up with some old faces, and new! :happy2:
Some serious money being spent in those halls today, and seemed if you didn't have air you were staying outside (Pssshhht)! :signLOL: Very predictable sceney winners in the MK5 category I hear! :indifferent:
But on the social side it was great! :happy2: :drinking:
Springs FTW!!

I agree! Loads of air ride!

People who don't like air are just jealous that they don't have it yet :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL:
Good show, my first year inside, great weekend. Was quite pleased to have a show only 20 miles down the road, so no need for much driving, until I got there with half a tank and was told I needed to burn some off. Cue 100 miles of unnecessary (although fun ) driving in order to burn off as much as I could before going inside.
Not surprised by some of the winners, the bar is set really high, esp in the Mk5 category.
-
Car looked nice Al popped over a few times to say hi, seats look stunning too
-
So who won best mk5?
-
Janet edwardson I'd imagine
-
Janet has the MK4 tho right? Unless shes got her hands on a can of stella.. i meant a mk5?
-
And her fella. Ought chris peacocks mk5 last autumn
-
Sure she bought the green mk5 that's full of carbon, that's it chris peacocks.
-
Apologies to Markymark as well. Nathan, Gareth and Mark all know what im talking about.

As many have said there were some great cars there. I think my disappointment was mainly due to the organisation.
There were hardly any trade stands - Unless you wanted stickers.
Parking was very limited nearby so those attending had to park in one of the many other local car parks for the shopping centre which I feel detracted from the atmosphere - Part of the fun for me is also having a look at what's in the car park. The ones I did see in the car parks looked like the owners had put a lot of effort into making their cars look nice.
Didn't see much in the way of Auto Jumble.
As others have said a massive influence on air ride, I've never seen the point in having a car so low it scrapes the ground.
-
I can't see the point in having a low car , not my boat either. I normally sit the in laws in my car if I want it low and floor scraping potential
-
They dont drive them that low. Its all about show impact, however, i agree. The cars handle like a joke on air ride. A decent set of coilies, and a subtle drop to improve looks impresses me more than seeing a splitter dropped on the floor.
-
Would a car with no wheels on at a show make as much impact :signLOL:
Only kidding... It's all about how silly wide your BBS wheels are and how many fingers can be slid under the cars floor pan at these kinda shows.Id be happy with my cars paint being in as good a condition as these show cars.Thats all that floats my boat. :ashamed:
-

It's just the "scene" low...spaced out BBS wheel, which is why I don't like the VW show scene, I go to the shows and I can appreciate the work that's been put in but most of the cars on the scene today all aim for the same thing low an wide, I'd prefer a big fat turbo sticking out of the bonnet but it's all down to taste
My favourite car of the day there was the green MK5 at the far end of the carpet show room  it had carbon door cards!!!!!!!!!
-
And her fella. Ought chris peacocks mk5 last autumn
Got some great pics of your car too al :congrats:

Have you ever been in a car with air?? They dont handle like a joke at all, maybe most of you should stick to motorsport shows as you seem to say the same thing every year, don't like air, they don't drive them blah blah blah, you know the format if you't don't like it or don't get it save your money.
-
I know plenty of people who are on air still moaned about the show. Seems as though if one of following 3 conditions are met you are a hero...
Air-ride
Rotiforms
Players sticker in font window.
Why why why were there cars inside that were not VWs???
-

This. BMWs?? I can understand it when a trader has a non VW on their stand to showcase their work. But in the show'n'shine????

Didn't see you there this year Craig?
Will always be the same on here dude, this forum always has been and always will be more about the 'go' than the 'show'. I too can appreciate the work that goes into these cars and agree that most of them looked the dogs, but it does seem to be more about how much money you spend at the moment.
-
ive got some mates who have pumped over £50k into their cars and being honest have totally ruined them but theyre happy and they get lots of scene points.
Although i prefer a static drop, i do like a slice of air ride.... thing i dont like is tiny rims to achieve the lowz, makes the cars look like roller-skates.
-

Maybe joke was the wrong word. I mean, they arent comical. Yes, they look great. Im not denying that. I loved the show. I think you are mistaken and have taken my comments out of context.
-
I saw what looked like a GTI that had been in an accident on the Motorway when we left. Didn't get much detail, anyone from here?
-
No1 seen me :( lol
-
....who said that?

Think that's a slightly naive opinion, how many cars have you been driven in with air? and I mean driven?
I had FK coilovers on before, and the air is far more comfy and responsive than those ever were.
I know air isn't everyones cup of tea, especially on this forum as it is more of a performance board. But some people need to be a bit less ignorant of what others like.
I saw some top performance cars being towed in, and trailered, at least mine drove in under its own power.
And her fella. Ought chris peacocks mk5 last autumn
Got some great pics of your car too al :congrats:
Look forward to them mate, sorry didn't see you for a chat.
-
I am allowed to have an opinion TBQFH. Already stated, that joke probably wasnt the best word. :popcornsoda:
-
I love cars on air ride set ups they look great and have been built for that slammed show look but I do like slammed cars and have done static to the floor on a few cars myself in the past.
-
I love the slammed cars, it's what I love about the vw scene, although don't get why buy r32 or gti etc to do that, passat cc decked hell yeah :happy2:
-
^^^ why not a gti or a R32?
think there are some poor opinions of air ride on this forum unless you have some solid evidence of air being crap in a performance car then i think its an opinion best kept in front of the keyboard.
also i best to mention the fact that air is sh*te and ruins the handling etc.. to the owner of Plush Automotive and the 626hp supercharged RS4 which was at UD (which is on air) and tell him to take it off straight away because the people in the know on here say it rubbish and handes like crap
:P
-
Why didn't manufactures consider Air if it's that good? is it costly?
-
If it handled as good as a say a race set up it would be fitted to race cars but as an everyday set up that is flexible then it's great and I love it on stuff people don't like to see it done to as its a break from the normal. We can't all like the same thing and it's good to see people pushing things
-
Any decent pics of the red k1?
-

That video goes to prove nothing. Neither does saying a car with 600bhp has air so it must be up for the job.... Nope, doesn't prove anything.
Do BTCC cars run on air? Clio cup? DTM? F1? WRC cars?
Air serves 2 purposes and 2 only, and that is going low when sat still, and being able to raise it so you can actually drive the thing.
(4 things if you include burning your arches to the bare metal and smashing sumps) ;-)
-
don't know why your freakin del boy, I'm a big fan of air ride, but i don't need to go in one to know its not as good as a good RACE suspension, why not a gti or r32 because there supposed to be a performance car, to me air ride is decked scrapping the floor looking awesome, not much point having 200 bhp
-
I remember being ast the Shark Performance open day last year. A lovely RS4 saloon came in and looked awesome. It then preceded to sink itself to the tarmac and IMO looked ridiculous. Completely ruined it.
Then i saw the install in the boot that made it possible, which IMO makes it an even bigger joke!!
The 3 guys there on air ride just stood there raising the cars up and down repeatedly, or making it into a trike so they could show people how to change a tyre without a jack. :indifferent: :indifferent:
Not my thing i know that. I cant stand the look of slammed cars, i think they look ridiculous.
2p
-
I think air ride can look awesome on the right cars. I think the issue becomes when the majority of cars are on air ride. But i guess it's all about trends and soon everyone will move on to something else.
-

I agree with this,
It all come down to personal opinion, air does serve 2 Purposes which is to go low and them be able to raise it up again...that's why It was made...NOT to go around the ring
Let's take al for example...car is on air and on some nice wheels, he has a lovely interior...it's clear to see that al has spent some serious coin on the car and it shows, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see al wanting to take his interior out and go around the ring to set some records, al enjoys the looks and fair play to the bloke
Most people on here are interested in how fast stuff goes...that's what the GTI golf is about..speed...go over to edition 38 and post in the new members section with a standard golf gti and your replays will be "space the rears out and set it on some lows" over here it's "get it mapped"
What I'm saying is that it's all personal opinion and as we're on the GTI forum your mostly going to get the "it doesn't make your handling better etc etc"
Me personally can't stand the low spaces out rears etc...it's way way way to common but it doesn't mean to say it doesn't look good, I'd feel a bit emotional if I spent 2K on some BBS RM's and 1.5K on air ride and went to a show and everything looked like mine,
My favourite car of the weekend was the old van on bricks! Went the complete opposite way to the "stanceworks scene" and the things flys....awesome :driver:
-

Just because those stated above don't run on air it doesn't mean that air wouldn't handle just as well especially after the same amount in years of R&D has been put behind them. I also imagine under these extreme enviroment's the teams would rather stick to the basic set up that coilover's provide plus the potential difference in weight between the 2 set up's.
I absolutely love the look of cars on air but would I have a kit fitted to my car?
Nope
I have absolutely no intention of modding my car to that level and the whole system would be wasted on me but then again so would coilovers.
But one thing that has been bugging me reading this thread is that people seem to be jumping on the ''I hate air/it handles like jelly bandwagon'' without even experiencing it for themselves. Perhaps next time you see someone at a R/R or meet instead of sitting there sniggering why dont you pop over and see if they would take you out in the car then come back and give your opinion :happy2:

-
now now girls ETTO
People spend endless amounts on performance based cars too. Appreciate both myself
-
also the drive home made me laught. people doing 50mph on the motorway to stop arch rub and such. i see it that i build both my cars to drive and thats what i do.(within the law :signLOL:) dont fink the detailing boys went much on my oily rag i used to wipe the tyre off the side the car and dishs sunday morning either
-
Modifying cars is ultimately about expressing your personality we all get drawn down different paths. I am not sure why the guys with air ride are bothered about what people say. Its like being a punk rocker, if you have a mohican you going to get the stares. If you think about it as two groups, the stance guys and the power boys i wonder which is the most outlandish. Most people on this forum think the guys who slam their cars with poke and a nice interior are the mad ones and yet the power guys take a front wheel drive family hatch and try and put 360BHP through the wheels. The only place they can use all that power is exiting roundabouts when the kids are not in the back.
Seriously though apart from the occasional comment the guys with air ride are well respected on here and dont get any grief. :happy2: were all mad as cheese. :pomppomp:

Great weekend at UD's, thanks to Detail My Ride who did a great job on my car given the short amount of time they had to prep it, it looked stunning. Also thanks to Dodo Juice for there hospitality and interesting conversation in Frankie and Bennies :surprised:
Good to meet some new faces, Deako, Ben, Russ and some familiar ones too :happy2:
I too can appreciate the time, effort and money that is put into the air ride cars, the world would be a boring place if we all wanted the same things...

Those plonkers have no clue, there was a thread on there not too long ago and some guys was taking the piss out of a SWB quattro! It was the rally version...the proper one that's worth about 40K and there giving it the juice about the vents in the body :stupid:
They have no clue and do nothing but take the mick and call anyone a Barry who has done a non standard mod to there car, used to be funny when your see a sh*troen crapso with a airfix body kit on it but now they have just gone to far with everything and it doesn't even seem funny anymore,

I agree. I posted elsewhere that you can just imagine they all drive Fiestas with tartan rugs on the parcel shelf.

Did make me chuckle a bit though!
I'd love to know what quality machinery he was piloting!! :chicken:
