Title: Door mirror - help needed

My door mirrors are being knocked on a regular basis by some bar steward when i park on the pavement outside my house. I dont always get it in the driveway you see.

Anyway, waxing yesterday i noticed the pasenger side glass is about to fall out. It seems to be coming away from it's fixing and is vibrating when i accelarate.

How is the door mirror glass fixed in? Do i need to get a new bit of mirror even though mine isnt cracked/broken?

My last one did this.There held on by double sided tape so all i did was get some of those ''no more nails'' sticky pads & re-stick it.Never had any more problems. :happy2:

Do they need to be slimline - is the thickness of the sticky pad behind the glass likely to be an issue with the heated mirror function?

........didn't effect mine,everything still moved/worked etc. :happy2:

Sorry to be a pain but what shape did you adopt with the sticky tape? Am i better to shape it around the rim of the glass (which has now come off in my hand) or in the middle - maybe in an X?

I ask as i want to allow the heating function to still work as you know.

Same thing happened to mine, was gonna buy a new one until vw quoted me in the region of £160 :laugh:

Needless to say I fixed it with some trust super glue and had no probs since :happy2:

............i did it on my last GTI (ED 30 NOW) & off the top of my head can't remember think i just stuck the on but trying to keep away from any wires etc.As before everything worked & mirror still adjusted so don't worry about it just stick them on as i did. :happy2:
