Hey all, just bought a set of Monza's
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv301%2Fjanus909%2Fmonza2.jpg&hash=ead2f2f69121bbd5fce0f315eea39666af13e3da)
unfortunately now received i can see one of the wheels isn't BBS stamped (rep) and is slightly different to the originals (bottom right in the picture) - i'm not overly stressed as I did get the 4 wheels (3 genuine) for 200 bucks which is pretty cheap....
what i'm more concerned about is, running the car on 3 genuine wheels and 1 replica, this might seem like a stupid question but is that going to be ok to do??
Thanks,
Jan

as long as the odd wheel is the same width and offset as the others and you run it at the rear i can't see it being too much of an issue? we run space savers in emergencies after all, and the difference in rolling radius and weight is much bigger for those than it will be for a rep with the right size tyre.
look on the bright side tho, £200 for 3 monzas is a good deal :happy2:
-
The replica is very likely to be both a different width and offset (ET) - have you checked - it should be stamped somewhere? I did raise this on the for sale thread. If it is a different width/offset I wouldn't use the replica, try and buy another genuine wheel.
-
I would check out breakers yards to try to find a genuine wheel. Then get all 4 refurbed together.
You still got a bargain.
-
all tyres on the alloys are running 225 / 40 ZR 18 - does that mean they are the same??
-
I run 3 bbs's and 1 Ronal Monza 2's, Never had any problem.

what's the Ronal?? do they look very different in design?
i think its going to be difficult to find just 1 genuine?
-
Might be wrong but wouldn't the rep be heavier? or atleast a different weight to the other 3.... i know that they would all be balanced but maybe running one wheel at a different weight from the others would make a difference to halnding?

Same design but made by Ronal, Still a genuine VW alloy but can tell the difference by them having different valves
-
so im still unclear as to whether or not i can run 3 originals and 1 replica?? I hope I can cause its going to be a nightmare otherwise sourcing an original wheel.... :(
-
Really cant see it being a problem, Just check on the back of the wheel to make sure it say 7.5J somewhere if so it matches the size of the BBS, A bit of weight difference wont have any effect. different tyres have different weights.

what does the 7.5J mean?

The width of the wheel

tbh I don't think its much of a bargain, it's 3 monza rims for £200 without tyres, before I got genuine ronal r32 rims with tyres with over 6mm thread on each for £200... gotta love dumb scrappies.
-
take some pictures of the numbers on the back of the wheels, one of the rep and one of the BBS and post them up, I'm sure one of us will be able to tell you the score :happy2:
