More questions for you lot to help with, i will be replacing my rear discs and pads soon, (fronts eventually) and wondered whats a good upgrade?
Either vented or drilled discs, descent pads.
Maybe upgrade to larger oem, but what would i need?
Cheers guys

No one?

Personally i wouldnt spend a huge amount on the rears, good quality oem spec discs and if you fancy a fast road pad something like the Hawk HPS are pretty good and inexpensive for the rear :happy2:
Easiest larger rear oem upgrade would be the 286mm solids from the GTi/Cupra, discs calipers and carriers required although you may get away with retaining your caliper but not 100% on if it is the same tbh (assuming you have the 232mm rears now?)
-
Ok will measure them up and see what I have, like the sound of maybe just the gti upgrade if I have the same calipers maybe?

At the very least though you will need the GTi carriers to space the caliper out to clear the bigger disc,
Even if you cant retain your original calipers then a full used rear set up from a GTi/Cupra should be fairly inexpensive i'd have thought :happy2:

Will look into that fancy doing a small upgrade to be honest

Beddie….. Will the full GTi front/rear brakes go straight on the TDi's?
Ive got the job lot in the garage that I need to shift soon.…calipers, carriers, disc's,pad's,hoses, etc

Yeah mate it's a straight upgrade for the 288mm setup on the 140 tdi etc

Cheers mate. Someone asked me a while back, but I didn't know. :ashamed:
:happy2:

How will i know or is there a part code, on the calipers to let me know if my calipers are gti ones with smaller carriers
-
I'd buy them brakes if your selling

Someone like DaveB (aka Prof. Friction) will tell you instantly or failing that a quick ETKA cross reference should tell you

Etka? Is that the parts list

2.0 TDI 140 BHP - 288x25
2.0 TDI 170 BHP - 312x25 (same as GTI)
Same caliper, so upgrade made easy.
Both 255x10 on rear. But don't bother with rear brakes. If you have the smaller 288 mm
setup go for the 312 mm rotors (Tarox F2000, G88 or Sport-Japan). There are some proper
conversion guides on the web.
Fit the Tyrol Bronze bushes as well and decend pads (Ferodo DS Performance or DS2500).

So do you mean the rear serups are all the same just the fronts that differ?
-
No. Sorry, I missed a word.
Smaller Golfs have 255y10 on rear (some 4-motion have 260 mm),
newer Mk.VI GTIs have 272x12 and former GTIs 286x12.
All 3.2 VR6 modell and the Mk.VI R have 310x20 vented rotors.
But rear doesn't make any difference on track. Rear brakes are
important when car is fully loaded and/or you pull an caravan.
So I'd only spend money for expensive front rotors.

Ah ok ta, well I will try and get carriers for the front and rears, maybe uprate fronts and just fit basic gti rears. Thanks very much for the info.
