sorry if this is a repetitive question but i have searched and cant seem to find what i am looking for
i need new front discs and pads and was wondering what i should go for, i am also wanting to know is it easy to change them myself?? as i looked on the vw site and see they charge £249 to supply and fit and i am also getting brave as i changed my pcv myself a couple of months ago :signLOL:
should i stay with genuine vw discs and pads or go for something else from euro car parts maybe?? i only use the car for commuting and dont go on a track at all
is it an easy job to do for someone who hasnt got much knowledge of doing things like this and also what tools would i need to do the job???

Try finding your local TPS(trade part specialist) they do OEM parts but lower the cost. This is the number to the 1 in manchester. Maybe they can tell you which is closest to you... 0161 474 8910
Changing the disc and pads is easy in my opinion. Theres a few guides online, I'm in work(yes working on a weekend :sad1:) at the moment so don't have the bookmarks. I'll post the link when I get home.

German Swedish and French seem to have good prices. Are all the parts gsf sell good quality please??
The guy said the shockers were made by the same manufacturer that vw use, just the vw sticker missing. Is this true?
And will the discs and pads be descent too.

Just stick to OE equivalent brands such as Pagid or ATE and you'll be fine, SBS and Brembo also do very good plain OE replacement discs
OE shocks are made by Sachs so if they are supplying those then yeah that it true :smiley:

Where can I buy the brands you mention please? (gsf or other suppliers)
And the shockers weren't Sachs at gsf??? Began with a b, I forgot the name.
Have you links please from where you recomend to buy from, I want quality parts but dealers are too expensive.
My cars a 56 reg gt tdi 170.

GSF or ECP (Euro carparts), even the dealer if you have a local TPS as the price can sometimes be very competitive imo :happy2:
Were the dampers Bilstein, if so there are a very good brand and a safe bet :smiley:

I'd say it's a do-able job for a novice home mechanic tbh mate :happy2:
You'll need a jack, wheelbrace, screwdriver (to pop the caliper spring off), 7mm allen key and maybe a rubber mallet to free the old disc from the hub...
Here's a how to from Vortex, granted its not for the GTi caliper but other than the caliper spring the method is the same :smiley:

I think this is the r32 disc and pads DIY... but I don't think there's any differance.
