Title: Boot handle
Post by: SRC on January 14, 2012, 07:57:17 pm
I know it's supposed to be damped, but my boot lid handle doesn't fully retract anymore.  Instead, it stays sticking out a few degrees.  I've give it a good squirt with the hose to clear out any dirt and then drowned it in WD40.  My only other DIY technique - hitting it with a big hammer - may not be right for this job.

Any ideas?

Could just be due to the cold weather. Mine takes longer to return to the original position during the winter.

Can't really think of any other DIY methods apart from the ones you have used already.

On a slightly off topic note, are all mk5 rear boot handles damped? I ask as my old man's 1.9 TDI handle is not damped, it slams straight back down.

I know you've been losing sleep over my hatch handle's damping, so you'll all be pleased to hear that it's behaving itself again.  No hammer-related surgery required.

I don't know about your Dad's handle, I'm afraid, but my Mum's loo seat is damped.

I have the same problem in cold weather, I covered it in WD40 and it seemed to rectify the problem for a week or so..
