Hi guys,

I am looking to buy a MK5 Edition 30. Can anyone give me any tips on what to look out for?  :driver:

Welcome mate, me too also just joined and looking either for an ED30 or a "standard" GTI! You beat me to asking this question :)

I dont know whether I should buy edition 30, or just go for a standard gti. Have you seen the pirelli edition?

Looks sweeeettt from the inside. Dont like the pirelli alloys tho!

Also can anyone comment on ride on there GTI? As on my CTR the ride is quite harsh!

Hi,
The regular gti is firmer than a regular car but still gives a supple ride.

Good luck in finding the right car, the market is in the toilet at the moment so it's definitely a buyers market although if a good gti is priced sensibly it won't hang around too long.

should drive my fn2 feel every single nook n cranny on the road  :rolleye:

There not many atm on autotrader or pistonheads  :surprised:

Do you guys prefer manual or dsg? does dsg come with flappy paddles?

Not all DSGs come with flappy paddles so you need to look out for that on the steering wheel if you want them. However if you find the perfect car without flappy I believe some have changed the steering wheel, but I'd advise you read up on that as I'm not sure if some cars you need to do more than swap the wheel to achieve it.

DSG by all accounts is very good. I'm a manual man myself. Its just down to personal preference, no right or wrong.

thanks for the info mate. So look out for flappy padles. There seems to be alot more dsg for sale than manuals  :stupid:
I need to test drive one to see what i prefer  :evilgrin:

A lot of people prefer dsg but it's down to personal preference really, I'm a manual man myself. And welcome to the forum :happy2:

Hmm need try out DSG version. Any commmon faults or prolems anyone aware of?

Welcome,

I have just collected my ED30 DSG and love it  :happy2: You wont regret it one bit!!!!

DSG faults is the know metronics unit failure that cause a jerky gear change, mainly from R into D, then between 1st to 2nd. Replacement about £1k at VW, also make sure the oil in the dsg box has been changed every 40k without fail.

Also check all arches and the front sills where the arches meet for rust spots another know issue.
