Title: Newbie collecting an Edition 30 on Saturday - Hello
Post by: yetidom on January 18, 2012, 09:25:47 am
Hi all:

Just thought I'd say hello as your site is fantastic.  I've already spent several hours on it browsing around - so figured I should introduce myself and get involved.

I'm due to collect an 07 plate 3dr Tornado red GTi Edition 30 DSG on Saturday and can't wait.  Ever since I experienced my friends Pirelli edition which has been remapped by Shark Performance, I knew I needed a GTi!  I've traded in a slightly newer 320d M-Sport Coupe so the GTi will feel rapid in comparison!    Plans are to drive it as standard for a few months to appreciate it, before starting down the slippery slope - Engine & DSG re-maps, induction kit etc.

Anyway, enough of my rambling.  Hello and thanks for all the great info on the site which has helped me no end so far!

Dom

Welcome from another Dom Edition owner!

Good choice is car! Check out the TR edition which has just been detailed in the detailing section for how they can look once polished up ;)

Good plan with the mods, even stage 1 transforms the car into a Q-car.

Thanks guys - will post some pics up after the weekend.  Really excited to collect her.  Believe it or not I actually tried E30Dom as log-in when I registered! Funny...

Will take a look at the detailling section now - I wasn't convinced by TR until I saw it in the metal, do like it though!

Welcome to the forum mate I am also in the first couple of months ownership of my ED30 same spec as yours DSG etc but mines grey also heading in the same direction ITG and stage 1 Revo and DSG software hopefully this year.

I'm sure you will love the car as I do mine it's worlds apart from the 2.0 CDTI Astra I owned previously.

Enjoy  :happy2:

:happy2: Cheers all, appreciate the welcome. I won't be too far behind you Tamiyoman, reckon early summer latest - for remap at least but sure that'll start me on a very slippery slope... They're like mountain bikes (my other passion), there's always more bits to buy

Yeah mines going for Stage 1 remap early April (after I get back from holiday) and then im saving like mad until I have enough for Turbo Back Exhaust, twintake and HPFP, while the HPFP is being done It was have the cam follower replaced (might even do intercooler if I can get a great price on them all in one go) but I think thats likely to be around £1700 without Intercooler so with will likely be around £2300!!, need to stop going on holidays and get saving!!

There was me thinking I'd get away with a catback exhaust, engine & dsg maps and induction... Can see this site will cost me a fortune!

I'm definitely no expert mate, got mine from VW for that reason. I spent quite a bit of time browsing this site before taking the plunge though. Definitely plenty of experts on here and some cracking info too. Worth spending some time having a browse etc. good luck, in my limited time with her, I couldn't recommend the car enough though.

Sorry couldn't be more help - I fear I would have only given you bog-standard advice though!  Good luck though, you'll love it when you find one you're happy with!

Looks like a mint example you got Yeti  :notworthy: :congrats:

What is the spec? Has it been lowered at all? (looks lower than standard)

What is your mod shopping list?

If I can offer any advice at all I can highly recommend…..

VW sharan stubby aerial (about £8 eBay)
RNS 510 (is a must IMO)
Lowering springs
R32/S3 brakes (fronts are a great upgrade, or fronts/rears if poss)
Revo stage 1
Blueflame TBE
ITG CAI.

I personally think the brakes should be upgraded before any performance upgrades

Hey Monte - thanks for your kind words.  I'm seriously loving the car...

Car is completely standard, not lowered - think it's just the angle of our driveway.  Spec also standard for E30 - it was just a lovely clean example, with new tyres/brakes, priced well at VW approved used with FSH etc.  Ideally would have liked zenons and satnav (but figured they were both nice to haves rather than essentials, and I'll likely upgrade to the latter at some point).

Really appreciate the advice on mods - love that stubby aerial!  Could be my first mod this week...  :happy2: I'm on info-gathering mode at the moment as my plan is to drive it as is for a few months and then start down the slippery slope at the beginning of the summer.  My friend has a Pirelli edition that's been remapped and it's immense - so I'll definitely be going down that route too.

Initial thoughts on mods shopping list (in advance of thorough research on this site) are:

Engine/DSG remap
Exhaust (I'll look into Blueflame as I originally had Millitek on the list)
Induction (I'll take another look at the ITG too as I was steering towards the Forge Twintake - admittedly out of lust not knowledge!)
RNS510 (or similar as standard thing isn't the best)
Matt black finish on Pescara wheels (TBC)

Given your comments on R32/S3 brake upgrade it sounds like I should lalso ook into that.  I actually thought the stock brakes were pretty decent (last car was a E92 320d M-Sport) but I guess they're probably not that decent for 300bhp!  Can see this site is going to cost me a fortune...  Some gorgeous cars on here though
