Title: Possible Pollen Replacement
Post by: Simpy on January 18, 2012, 12:37:08 pm
After a bit of help and advice guys, just recently with all this cold and wet weather were having ive noticed my car seems to get full of condensation in no time at all, theres no damp or water getting in anywhere in the car. I Did change my headliner before the weather started getting cold. I was sat in really bad traffic jam on the motorway a few weeks ago the weather was lashing it down and my car was get misting over in no time at all, id blast it with the heater and it would clear the majority of it but once i shut my window again and turned my heated off it would slowly come back, there was me and a friend in the car. Even when i leave the car over night and come to it in a morning the is condensation on the inside of the windscreen, i expect some but compared to my prents and sisters cars whos will have been sat on my drive all night having not been used where as mine will have been sat there from normally 11pmish there is a lot lot more, i wouldnt expect this as surly the car will be warm giving less cause for condensation. Just wondering if it could possibly be the pollen filter maybe? Ive not experieced anything else, allthough my heater doesnt even seem to be "cold" when its set on "Low" its never freezing. I very very rarely experience a bad smell in the car....normally i just put this down to ermmm my bad ass lol! and normally cant smell anything due to magic trees lol!

Its only £8 maybe cheaper so it wont harm changing it now to see if it clears it up. Very easy job to do.

Behind the glovebox.

Remove the plastic foam underneath glovebox, towards the rear you'll see a long & thin plastic cover, slide it off and the filter will be visible (or drop out).

And have a vacuum cleaner ready as they usually fill the foot well with dirt.

They certainly do, it's the exact same filter in my wife's Altea just after we bought it, it seems like it was never ever changed since new and the filter was filthy minging. All sorts of crap fell down!

Just noticed - the part number in tfsi_mike's photo (1K1819653B) is for a left hand drive filter according to ETKA.

The RHD version part number is: 1K2819653B. This is for the better activated charcoal version of the filter.

I've just found this on ebay, an Audi main dealer in belfast offering the charcoal version for £10 inc. postage! So nearly a fiver cheaper than getting it from your local main dealer! (ETKA price is approx £14.50)

I'm sure the lhd and rhd filters are the same.

There are two versions on the filters.  One (as in mikes pic) is a higher quality version to the other and more of a 'pollution' filter.

It may 'fit' - but are you sure the air is flowing over it in the correct direction?

The non-charcoal cheaper filters can be fitted with the airflow in either direction, but these more expensive charcoal ones are supposed to be directional.
