Hi people.
Please if some one can answer this i will be a happy boy. ok so i think i have a rcd500 which is rubbish now i want to upgrade this to the kenwood dnx520vbt but my car has the vw sound pack installed i have some kind of amp under the passenger seat. now my local dealer has told me the kenwood may not work with the sound pack so want to charge me an hours labour to see if it works or not?
What do you think?

Ok so has any one changed the head unit if the car has the sound pack fitted?
-
If you fit an upgrade OEM unit, all you need to do is change the coding to ensure it knows that the amp is there. I have seen the option in VCDS.

The problem is by the time i get an rns510 later canbus ipod connection and bluetooth module then fitting i just dont think its worth it. this is why i was i wanted the kenwood dnx520vbt it does it all for £999 fitted by vw with a 3yr warrenty.

I'm sure you can get the RNS510, bluetooth and MDi for less than the £999
-
Yep, I have just done this without the MDI, as the RNS has a HDD with all my songs on, for far less and the bonus is you get full OEM integration. And I got a RNS 510 F version too.

Cheers guys i need to do some homework.

Agree with Eddie. I was going down the route of having the Kenwood for £999. It is a nice unit, had a play with one at Inters and wasn't all that on it, Its the best looking non OEM one on the market IMO, but I just don't like the fact none of the leads are hidden and come out the USB on the front of the unit and doesn't look symmetrical like the OEM ones.
Here's some rough costs of going down the OEM route (just in the process of doing it myself). You can normally pick up the RNS 510 ver C LED for £550 and MDI for £120, so thats £670. Then bluetooth you can pay anything from £160 upwards depending on what you want and if you have high or mid line dash, so call it £200 (can be alot cheaper or more expensive) so thats £870. Going by Eddie's prices in his For Sale thread a canbus depending if your doing it yourself, pre coded or fitted worst case £90.
So a total outlay £960 + fitting which wont be alot depending where you go or do it yourself. You can probably find the parts for cheaper than this but its just a rough guide.
There's several people on here who can do the fitting and supply stuff or point you in the right direction, Eddie, Morty and Golfman to name a few off the top of my head
Hope this helps :happy2:

Another point to consider
The RNS, MDI, Bluetooth and Gateway can be removed when you sell the car and will have good resale value
how much do you think you will get back on the aftermarket stereo?
