Hi all,
After having my beloved steel grey gti been written off by a crazied old lady im on look out for new car. Always wanted a 30 edition and would like a candy white with good spec xenons and sat nav 3 door with low milage,on .07, 08 plate But there seems very little out there for sale :sad1:?? does anybody know how many were made, and how much should i be looking to pay.
-
Sorry to hear abot your Steelie :sad1:
Unfortunately for you your probably looking for the rarest colour (some will say steel grey is rarest, but i seen 3 of them since november and not seen 1 Candy white one yet!).
Wanting a 3dr candy on 07/57/08 plate with low mileage and top spec limits your options and chances quite a lot.
Imagine 2300 built and equal number of cars per colour thats only 460 white ones, maybe half of those are 3dr so 260, then half of those are poverty spec 130, then you dont want 56 plate lose another 25 or soand your left with 105, and now you want low mileage too :happy2:, not too many to choose from.
Above is just an idea and I would say there are way more red, black and silver ED30s than there are white or steel grey although possibly more 3dr versions than 5dr (Lots of ex lease cars will be 5 doors as lots of companies have stipulations on 5drs only).
Chances are with what you want your probably looking for 10-15 cars out of 2300 in the country :surprised:
Regards how much to pay depends on how hard you haggle, but if i was looking to buy an 08 plate Ed30 I would be looking at £11K to £11.5k, add some for white so possibly £12K max with good spec, maybe more for VERY low miles (remember if your looking for 08 plate 44K miles is currently the average!).
I started looking for my candy Ed30 in June last year and found one in november, in that time on ebay and autotrader I only saw 6 candy white ones for sale. My search was for 3 or 5dr, Candy white DSG, Xenons and sat nav, with FVWSH anything else it had was a bonus!, only saw 2 that fitted the bill and I bought one of them (The other was cleaner but also seller wanted £2K more, now for sake of 2 new tyres, spare key being cut and front splitter being repainted I was happy not to pay the extra £2k for the priveledge!!, it cost me £450 to sort those bits! on mine!)
-
Mako v12v. is making noises about flogging his cw 3dr 30k Non xenons thou but can be retro fitted pm him and see where you get to But sure his is manual box :happy2:
-
Thanks for feed back guys :drinking: i will pm mako16v see if he wants to sell!!! tamiyoman sounds like you have been through it all mate,i thought there was limited amount but not that bad!!!! 10-15 cars in country is scarey!!
-
I know, it took me a while to find one but im a happy chappy now.
Those figs are just estimates based on numbers, its likely that there are a lot less white Ed30's than i think, if you nsee how many red, silver and black there are on here it makes you think there are a lot less of them.
I did ask VW how many of each colour were made but as yet they have not replied (I dont actually expect them to either).
-
I know what you mean about finding it hard to get the Ed30 you want mate... I was looking for about 4 months when my MY08 3Dr Candy White DSG Ed30 appeared 10miles away in Sunderland Audi. I feel i paid top dollar for it, but it's got Sat Nav, FVWSH, Xenons, Cruise, MFSW, Highline, etc. Plus a real bonus was having 3 months worth of warranty left when I got >£1500 worth of work done.... keep looking mate and you'll find the one you want
-
I was very lucky with mine, it had FVWSH 39k, Highline, MFSW, Xenons, Centre Armrest, Winter Pack, Comfort pack, Sat Nav, Sunroof and all that was missing from the list was cruise (which was fitted by the forums own eddie_nl), it even came with a 3 year warranty on the DSG box (33 months left :happy2:) after it was replaced by VW under warranty for previous owner :happy2:, even better was previous owner needed to sell and he let me take it at a good price :innocent: :innocent:
I think the only options its missing are Bluetooth and folding mirrors
All it needed was the splitter painting, 2 new tyres and key cut and it was a sorted car!, cant wait to go stage 1 :driver:
-
I had to wait 5months for a candy white 3dr, manual with no more then 40k and ended up with a candy white 3dr with 22k on the clock......loads of extras as well. One will pop up but I had to wait 5months and nearly changed my mind about what car to buy. It was worth the wait in the end!!!! The stats about how many of each colour would be interesting!
-
I have done a follow up email asking how many of each, maybe i will get a reply?
-
There is one on autotrader at the moment. Trade seller, 2008, 86000 miles £12000 :happy2:
-
And a 2007 model, private seller, 32000 miles, £13000 :happy2: Bit much in my opinion probably worth 11.5 - 12 tops!!!

Yeah that one has been for sale since October, apparently the dealer is well known for shonky cars :scared:
-
The 2007 model sounds better, but I think they will struggle to sell at that price!?

Thats got Nav, Highline and MFSW and armrest but no Xenons (retro fit) and yes its priced at what he wants to get not what he will get :happy2:
Mileage sounds good (low) but no mention of S/History
Might be worth a look and throwing a figure at him

I had a look around it and it's a nice car and yes he does do some bad cars I just think he has way too much stock

Is that not a bit optimistic for an 08 plate?
I'm looking a 5DR Edition 30 just now and there isn't much about. On Autotrader 07/57 plates seem to be advertised at roughly 12-13k and 08 plates can be anything up to 14.5k.
Obviously there will be room for haggling, cash sale discount etc but some dealers seem to put cars up at stupid prices and they just sit there on their forecourts not selling.
Ideally I'd like a 5DR Candy White btw but I suspect that won't be happening :(
Some examples of the optimistic pricing going about:
2007 5DR @ £14,495 (Red, DSG, 34k, Sat Nav) (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201201440347801/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/quantity-of-doors/5/model/golf/make/volkswagen/radius/1500/page/1/keywords/edition_30/postcode/g537np?logcode=p)
2008 5DR @ £14,490 (Grey, DSG, 35k, Sat Nav) (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201151436312025/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/quantity-of-doors/5/model/golf/make/volkswagen/radius/1500/page/1/keywords/edition_30/postcode/g537np?logcode=p)
2007 5DR @ £13,995 (Black, DSG, 19k) (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201149433195860/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/quantity-of-doors/5/model/golf/make/volkswagen/radius/1500/page/1/keywords/edition_30/postcode/g537np?logcode=p)
2007 5DR @ £13,790 (Red, Manual, 40k) (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201203443530190/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/quantity-of-doors/5/model/golf/make/volkswagen/radius/1500/page/1/keywords/edition_30/postcode/g537np?logcode=p)

Its not optimistic, its possible, I paid £11650 for mine back in November with 39K and great spec, i then spent another £450-500 getting it how I wanted it so its entitely possible to gget an 08 plate with great spec for £12k, poverty spec 08 plates in red/black/silver I would not be paying more than £11k for them.
Depends how hard your willing to push the seller.
Bottom line if you prepared to wait and haggle hard you can do well, if the seller sniffs desperation from you to buy one your hooked and he knows it, do your homework and go prepared.
Taken from a post on another forum by myself:-
"and yes I talked him down from £13K after I went armed with lots of previous listings/prices, CAP values and several "Unsold" listings from ebay and the prices and details of the last 6 ED30's that BCA had sold , he soon understood he was VERY unlikely to get what he asked
I would not feel too bad making a "Sensible" offer, I know folks say the book is rubbish (depends which book) but I got my brother (in the lease indusrty) to give me CAP values so I went on those and got mine at Cap middle so yeah the parkers guides may be off but teh CAP figures are what industry uses and those seem fine.
I was looking at another 3 dr 08 plate Ed30 DSG, Park Sensors but no other options (basic then) which came up for auction at BCA and CAP was £10750 to £11350, I then bought my car but went anyway out of curiosity to see what t went for, it went for £11150 pretty much bang in the middle of figures my bro quoted me, it appeared 9 days later sat on a VW dealers forecourt at £14995 If they found a buyer for that it must have been the easiest £3.5K they ever made

I paid slightly over the odds for mine but it was exactly what i wanted. In my opinion, if your looking for a rare-ish car in a rare colour and being picky with the mileage and spec then expect to pay slightly over the odds. I think 13-14k is reasonable. You could be waiting a very long time if you don't want to pay the slight premium, or settle for higher mileage, as mileage doesn't always mean a better car. I wish you all the luck though. Also bear in mind some cars might be more expensive for a good reason (condition, recent maintenance etc). For example; two equivalent cars differ in price by £600 but one had brand new tyres and recently serviced then that would be £600 well spent in my opinion. Even though £12900 compared to £13500 does seem like a massive difference. That deficit might be even greater when considering a cars Cambelt change etc, especially when looking at the scheduled Cambelt change being at the age most of them are at.
-
yes the cambelt (and especcially the DSG Oil change) all come up at 4 years or 40K miles, Main stealer will ask you for £668 for your 4 year service inc cambelt and waterpump/rollers etc, Independants will probably do it for around £400.
My car is due its large service (£259) now (its booked in for 31st Jan at VW) and cambelt service is due in May (Will be going Independant for cambelt/pump/rollers etc as its £248 as opposed to £409, wanted to keep the VW stamps in my book for servicing, routine maintenance will be done by my local Specialist (who is excellent with VAG cars as he always has them himself, he has an RS6 currently and last time I was there he was re-building the engine :happy2:).
Pay what your happy with but not through the nose and you will be happy im sure
-
I agree, it's worth paying a bit more for the right spec and work done on the car etc.
I think I may have found the most overpriced ED30 for sale right now...
Red, 2007 (57), 13k @ £17,489 (http://pistonheads.com/sales/2513960.htm)

The most important thing to me when buying a car is what condition its in and has it been looked after properly (serviced regular, and how been driven) thats what i look for ,milage wont show that, but present owner will give you some indication !! I have seen some owners with their cars treat them like just stolen them on constant joy ride. Big spec is not that important to me really but i would like it to come with sat nav and xenons if paying good money for the car because i do feel i would buy them afterwards which can be costly. I will have to just sit tight and wait for the right car to come along ANYBODY??!!!!
-
I was looking for a c/w ed30 one but none turned up so I brought a red one instead...was going to buy a c/w Gti but wanted a eddie

Well if you can't find a car in a colour you like... Only other option is an engine out respray which would cost over double the price

TBH I would prob do engine out respray rather than the "Blue Peter sticky back plastic route" :signLOL:

One popped up on Ebay today.
Good points:-
Ed30 5dr candy White, DSG, Nav, Highline, 26K miles, Factory tints
Bad Points:- No SH mentioned, No Xenons, No Park sensors, No MFD wheel, cant see any Armrest (may have one tho?), and price is almost £14K (Maybe 1.5K overpriced?)

It does have xenons
Steering wheel red stitching is difficult to make out? If it hasn't, then it's had a new steering wheel and the begs the question why?
seems strange as its fitted with the highline dash... Which normally has multifunction wheel fitted aswell?
-
Mine had Xenons and highline but no multifunction wheel fitted, has now. :happy2:
-
If it has Xenons why in the picture can you see headlight adjustment switch? (See pic 3 in far bottom right corner) :booty: Must be after market if they are Xenoons or retro-Fit
Looks like Red stitching to me on wheel when you expand the picture :happy2:

My car has xenons, and has an adjuster switch, because it had halogens previously. Perhaps he's retrofitted.
Yes it's red stitching, didn't expand the pic enough on my mobile phone
-
Aha, retro fit then, mine has Xenons but No adjustment switch as factory fitted
