Had the Ed30 dsg for a few weeks now & seriously thinking of stage1 remap..is it best to get the dsg mapped too or I can get away without the dsg getting mapped, thinking of either revo or bluefin from jkm as its nearer to me
-
Mine has been stage 1 for 55K without the DSG mapped, it's not a necessity imo
-
Have a look at Shark mate! :happy2:
-
I would say no. It really needs to be accompanied by a full set of engine mounts.
-
DSG remap's only really for increased functionality. It won't change up or down for you at all, it'll let you smash into the rev limiter if you choose, and some say it makes the gearbox smoother.
If it was £200 I'd say give it a go - but it's around the £500 mark and for that it doesn't seem worth t

Go for it............
Check R-Tech out mate........ :happy2:

Do not buy superchips (Bluefin)!!! Learn from my experience.... I purchased my edition 30 DSG on the 5th Jan this year and then installed the remap on the 6th Jan. The car felt considerably faster but boost was erratic and it would stutter between 2750 and 3000rpm. I did not go directly back to Superchips as I wanted to know the car was in good health. I had my local VAG specialist look at the car and after a number of hours declared the car healthy. I then emailed Superchips and they replied that they had seen this before and sent me a new map to try, no other explanation was provided. I installed the new map and the car now drives very well. I then emailed Superchips for an explanation and they replied back with "You had been provided a file suitable for manual as opposed to the DSG transmission, but I have also reduced the fuel rail pressure which is the critical part" I find this very disappointing as I selected DSG on the initial order form and again when downloading the initial map. Also as they had had problems with fuel pressure before why run the fuel pressure so close to the limit. My local VAG specialist stripped the fuel pump and checked the fuel pressure, so I know it was all working as it should. If you search the forums, Superchips have sent incorrect maps out before! So beware. I feel better for that rant!

Most probably I would be going to either jkm or r-tech for the remap....only thinking of doing the engine mapping but not the dsg map

Yes mate, real nice guys who really know their stuff, ive had my custom map for over a year and a half and i still cant wipe the smile off of my face.

Seems you've just been very unlucky as everyone I know who's used Superchips is nothing but happy at the result. I have it on my MK6 and it's superb. It's not mental it's just superb.

I'd be cautious, given the car has DSG.

Yes I have
See here: http://www.r-techpower.co.uk/r-tech-producs.php

So is it £200 or £290

So is it £200 or £290
Either - depends if you want to go custom (worth it if you have any other mods ie panel filter or pre-cat removed (see my other thread))
Which ever one you choose, r-tech will check the car over and make sure your happy with the result. :notworthy:
-
Ok,will give them a call first thing monday
-
Will also ask them if they can remap the dsg unit too

Ive had superchips before and the boost and power delivery was erratic. Many others (mostly K03) had the same issue as i did both on here and briskoda with the 2.0TFSI. Then theres the case of superchips sending out the incorrect maps for DSG cars etc.
I personally wouldnt use them again. Ive had a fair few Shark maps and luckily havent ran into the trouble of alackofspeed or HeavyD, but i have just had the shark map removed back to stock because i wasnt happy with it and am letting Jabbasport custom map my car instead.
Jabbasport seem a really professional outfit from my experience over the last few days. I was torn between REVO and APR for who to swap with, but after speaking to Kev@jabba on the phone about what they could offer, i dropped my REVO/APR even though i was being offered a stella deal as i wasswapping from another tuner.

I had my bora 1.8t custom mapped by jabba some years back and the car was awesome when they had done with it. Top set of lads.

My shark stage 1 2.0TFSI map was a pretty good map, at a rolling road day with my mate mike who was runnign a Jabba stage 1 map on his 2.0TFSI there was nothing between them at all. Both made 240Hp/270lbft

Hello.
Software is only 50% of getting a remap session spot on. I wish it was as easy as flashing a map and taking the money... I would have my RS6 bi-turbo by now..lol
Typical 2005 Mk5 GTI 2.0TFSI 197bhp R-Tech Custom Rolling Road Remap session.

Stock power made 206bhp 234lbft for some reason the car made high stock torque output, it should be around 205lbft?
So we carried out a full data logging session to find out why the torque was so high on a stock power run. Our findings where that the N75 boost controller was a little lazy and was reacting slow, causing the boost to over shoot and the ecu pid controllers react to late.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh252%2FRtechremaps%2FIMG_1474.jpg&hash=45280115123d278a6cd7d312186316753a1b9b93)
Next step was to take all the logged data and produce a spec1 base map based on the compiled data.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh252%2FRtechremaps%2FIMG_1476.jpg&hash=70efe72565d9ef1a577d6cd7ead630353a958c46)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh252%2FRtechremaps%2FIMG_1473.jpg&hash=83594562b4a44a63963b70bfb610809bab9a8544)
Next step is to flash the base map and log the boost, lambda, timing, n75 ect to make sure they are following the ecu requests. The logging was found to be ok and safe, so the next step was to carry out fully loaded power runs against the rolling roads eddy current brake to allow us to get a mental picture of where we can improve the map and to iron out the flats spots and wasted boost where we could use more timing advance and reduce the boost with out compromise to the power.
then..........................hit a brick wall lol
During logging and loaded power runs we found a major flat spot at 5000rpm, which also can be seen in the stock map so the remap has brought the issues to light. We made another 4 map version to try and iron out the issue, but only made the flat spot worse, as this point we put the flat spot down to hardware. After looking at the logs we found the air flow to increase at and N75 effort get higher at 5000rpm without and gains in the power curve which mean the issue is boost / air realted. After 20mins of hardware testing we found the one way PCV check valve to be leaking and sticking open...end of mapping session. New part on order.
final result today= 237bhp 278lbft with PCV issues.

Just goes to show mapping is only 50% of getting good power.. the rest is down to the tuner to id hardware issues.

I would recommend r-tech hands down.. They will bend over backwards to help you out + there maps are spot on :driver:

+1
And here's mine being put through its paces by Nick on the rolling road at R-tech. :jumping:
