Here's a few pics of the GTi since ive had it, been around two months now.
when i got it:

fitting the BSH PCV fix:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_8624.jpg&hash=3bb8b127091a34ebbfdb0f2e5796019ec9a8cc66)

the crap th stock PCV lets into the inlet mani:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_8682.jpg&hash=6f8c4c7d8f95d995d7ede87ff9a861d3b7058bd1)
then i went and tidied up the bay with a new filter and a good clean!

and i used a filter sock to keep it that way
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_8704.jpg&hash=92da051e5a43efaf50b20517782b5df4aab61e2a)

then i fitted the BSH boost tap:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_8996.jpg&hash=b8c698640a048973880ccd636878c0b64bf4fd98)

then it was time to take off the GT28 and go back to an OEM setup, i just prefer the delivery of the KO4.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9114.jpg&hash=dc188f72c8bfff35f35e7cc904f16777eef063fe)

while i was there i fitted up a BSH catch can because this is what i found in the crankcase breather!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9138.jpg&hash=43435f1f31e0bfeb3ad802a66f17433bf60acbaa)
other than that i have gone back to the stock splitter and modified the front legs so it sits a little lower :)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_93431.jpg&hash=22bdf17fc6f11b1b221a737242b855a033e43447)

hopefully lots more to come soon! :happy2:

Arhh, i seem to remember this car... Regal in Southampton. Was down there buying a Certain Reg plate this past week..
370bhp im guessing was on your rollers .... :popcornsoda: hehehe..
Nice job and welcome along fella :happy2:
-
yeah, thats right. i take care of the mapping work down here!
was on the phone when you arrived but was going to nip through to have a chat to you about your GTi - looked nice! maybe another time :)
-
GT28 what bhp did that make ? Is the kit for sale ?
-
it made 390 on a very conservative boost setting, im looking to go for a GT30 kit at a later date so i sold the GT28 on already :)
-
very nice - yeah GT30 seems the way to go. Nice looking 5 though ;)
-
Looking forward to seeing the updates, lose track on ED38 as the build threads move that fast.
Reckon you can have it close in power to the MK4?
-
the aim of the game is to end up with more power than the mk4! :happy2:
-

indeed :drinking:
-
Yes Ryan, love this! What torque does it make on the KO4?
-
Very moody looking motor! :happy2:
Welcome along! :drinking:
-
Nice looking car mate. Just one question, what's the deal with the rear view mirror?
-
Nice looking car mate. Just one question, what's the deal with the rear view mirror?
+1 just spotted that! :surprised:
-
Check yer blind spots! Lol
-
ha! the rear view mirror - it's just old habbit from running RWD cars with locked diffs and bald rear tyres. it's handy to see if theres police about :driver:
torque wise it's at 350ft/lb - it changes all the time though as im allways tinkering and trying out new setups to get a little more power :happy2:
-
Such a good looking car. What bsh pcv kit was that before the catch can went on? Is it called the pcv revamp? Thanks, Stevie.
-
it's the stage 1 PCV revamp here: http://www.regal-shop.co.uk/vw/acatalog/golf5_Tuning_Accessories.html
can probably do you guys 10% off if anyone fancies one :happy2:

I like your thinking ;)... my rocker cover has a film of oil under the PCV valve, so was looking for a uprated one.
Group buy for more % off ;)
-
Glad to see you on here - don't like the build threads on Ed38
I'll be watching this with interest
-
I need one, dont want to run a can but i want a pcv fix, will this sort the valve gunk? No point in me building my head for the valves to gunge up again. Cheers, Stevie.
-
of course, if you guys want to run a group buy i can organise pricing - email me at work though, it's ryan@regal-auto.co.uk
the BSH PCV fix stops the gunk from entering the inlet manifold by removing the PCV valve - and so stops it from clogging up the back of the inlet valves....
now you still have the crankcase breather, and you still have the rear PCV. if you want to go one step further like i have you can also fit the catch can - this removes the last of the oil and water vapour from the breather system and cleans it up even more.
i've certainly noticed a difference in how clean the bottom of the rocker stays with both just the PCV valve and the catch can :happy2:
-
Looking forward to watching this build thread. You got any vids of the car at 390bhp?
Love the rear view mirror too :happy2:
-
Nice to see you on here now Ryan. Cars looking awesome as always, think i liked it better with the splitter though.
-
Awesome car - followed with interest on E38.
Can't wait to see the future changes :happy2:
-

:notworthy:
I don't quite like the OEM steering position. I think it is too far away from the driver.
Well, you fixed that problem :congrats:
Keep up the good work!
:notworthy:
-
i agree with you rex, i like to have the wheel fairly close with bent arms. im 6ft 2 so sometimes its hard to get nice and low in the car and remain comfortable - this is nice to sit in though!
i still have the splitter, but i literally cant go down the road with it on now its lower... it sits on the floor even on a level surface, it's smashed into three pieces in the boot

follow this on edition mate ! lovely car
-
i thought you had jonny c's old mk5 ? im guessing this thing will be ballistic considering ur old mk4 , looking forward 2 seeing this :happy2: !
-
Lovely car mate, am I right in thinking this is the old PVW Project Car?!
Matt

I'm 6ft 1 and have the same problem. The problem I like the OEM steering too much. So I'm still confused and don't know what to do :sad1:.
-
im not sure there is a whole lot you can do then
no, i never owned jonny's old car - that was my dad... so ive driven that alot though, taken it over to amsterdam and club charleys. this will need more power to keep me entertained!
-
stunning car :happy2:
-
thanks guys :happy2:
got a couple of snaps with it sat in the car park today - i like the way it's sat with the stock splitter now - i just need to find a grille strip if anyone knows of one knocking about??

golf's have got bigger over the years but it's surprising sometimes how small a mk5 really is compared to other stuff out there!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9363.jpg&hash=6562ea996e890b8a17b0a718a25d73b7630a8d33)
i also fitted my forge splitter valve, sounds great and throttle response is awesome!

it's using the BSH boost tap for the vacuum feed.

-
looks very nice
loved your mk4
cnt believe this has still got standard brakes on though with all that power
-
brakes is something i'd like to address pretty soon but it's not too bad as long as you keep your head and dont get yourself into trouble!
-
im still on standard aswell running 364bhp and isnt honestly that bad . looking at the forge big brake kit as they are ment 2 be quite good and relativly cheap but as my car is in bits at the moment and im running out of money slowly i should probably stop looking at stuff 2 buy :(
-
brakes is something i'd like to address pretty soon but it's not too bad as long as you keep your head and dont get yourself into trouble!
Agree with that :signLOL:
-
Interesting looking motor mate :happy2:
Some cool mods done and planned.
Stealthy for sure
-
looks mean as mate :happy2:
-
brakes is something i'd like to address pretty soon but it's not too bad as long as you keep your head and dont get yourself into trouble!
How does it deal with putting that much power down? I've driven a Focus RS MP350 and even that with its tricky LSD struggled with plenty of torque steer.
Cheers,
Jim
-
the wavetrac LSD takes care of that, it's one of my fave mods on the car. ive driven with lots of quaifes and other styles of ATB and none of them are even remotely as smooth as the wavetrac.
because of the wave profile, and that it allways has internal loading - youre never waiting for it to engage, it's seamless engagement and it feels oe. really compliments the rest of the car :happy2:
-
Wasn't sure about the look at first but now I'm looking over it properly it looks like an absolute BEAST. So raw, bet it shifts too :driver:
-
You need to upload those sound clips Ryan .
-
Love it mate ,followed the build on ED38,gonna contact you soon to convert my k03 gti to k04 p.s love the pic with the boxer in it !
-
ah the boxer is my dog, roxy! shes proper scatty as hell and chases anything that rolls - most annoying of which is trolley jacks haha! :stupid:
suns out today and the porsche came out of hiding, caught this snap!

That looks ace, never thought about having the cover painted.
Lot of inspiration with this build thread! :happy2:

Make sure the torx bits are fully undone next time you remove the rocker cover Al
Thinking about painting mine too
-
ive ordered some custom samcos for the catch and intake so will paint my other rocker to match those when they arrive. i allways have either pearl or metalflake rocker covers on my cars :happy2:
-
love this! doesnt help my wanting to sell my mk2 20v for a mk5!
your mk4 was mental to!
-
love this! doesnt help my wanting to sell my mk2 20v for a mk5!
your mk4 was mental to!
You won't sell the mkII, You won't sell the mkII, You won't sell the mkII, You won't sell the mkII*
*until I have ££££ spare at least [/size. :P
The mad Mk4 reminds me of my hankering for a biiig power Mk4 R32
-
i still hanker after mk4's every day haha... the mk4 24v is 'my' car... just wish i had the money to swap in all the mk5 interior to one and do another big build...
anywayssss - so i was wondering how full my catch can was after just a week...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9548.jpg&hash=5672399841ebd107407c414e2920a42dc83cc798)
and this is the result!

mostly just just water in there for now, but you can see the oil and impurities gathering, so happy its not stuck to the back of my exhaust valves!!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9555.jpg&hash=973e90c3a2bee27ad45d26acf1496cf35e65be20)
look how sticky it is. nasty...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9558.jpg&hash=e251996f143004784f469184d9b45c1f3598e8e7)
wished i fitted the PCV delete and catch sooner!!
-
so, last night we began to strip the car ready for the new camshafts:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9573.jpg&hash=b88fedce86cb119d6fb293b2163ed4cabd7dfc46)
and they arrived this morning! this is the full Regal Autosport Cam Pack:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9576.jpg&hash=e4e7ab795f708acd122d00563f59efa9229addff)
comes with, inlet and exhaust cam, fitting kit and vernier pulley - notice that two hardened and coated fuel pump lobes are included...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9579.jpg&hash=6c47b6032e3a195bf63e87b73b864e4390ac1513)
one is slightly higher lift than stock for road use and gives a higher rail pressure than a standard cam would, and an even higher lift lobe for motorsport use - so i should be able to retain full FSI when i go for really really big power later :D
the pump lobes themselves are specificially hardened and coated to work perfectly with the OEM update coated pump lobe follower (bucket) and reduce bucket wear over the stock setup. ALOT of effort has gone into this and currently we are the only cam supplier able to offer this improvement... you dont just get more power, but more protection too!!

stock cams out:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9594.jpg&hash=3c81f6d477ac2d9365f13b838f722de036714a31)
last week i had the car on the dyno and checked the health of the car and did some runs to give a baseline for improvement with the cams and i noticed a slight drop in power to 363bhp and an intermittant drop in sustained boost levels... i eventually tracked it down to be a fluctuation in delivered rail pressure, which was causing the car to pull back timing which in turn affected the boost...
and today we found the cause of the rail presure fluctuation i had been experiencing on the dyno....
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9583.jpg&hash=9f1b88a85a439aee08c03df6c5b54695086d5294)
the dreaded lobe wear!
now you all know why and what happens when this starts haha
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9585.jpg&hash=19e19a83ddd79b3664e054e673b32232bf696950)
as you know this is extremely common on all 2.0TFSi engines but the good news is the new cam pack we have put together includes a hardened fuel lobe and is specially coated to work perfectly with the updated OEM buckets, so this wear will be significantly reduced and i dont have to worry about checking for wear periodicially
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9588.jpg&hash=08451bab45b7909b3a9e2583155cf95cf64e78e0)
will be a nice peace of mind!
im genuinely excited about this cam pack, because it is a genuinely better design than stock - and not only gives more power but addresses a common 2.0TFSi niggle, and that to me is absolutely what modifying is all about!
also going the mundane cambelt and water pump at the same time, and will aim to get the RS4 fuel return valve in too - with any luck i might have an idea of the power gains by tonight!
fingers x'd for me :D
-
This thread is BIG! Loving it :happy2:
-
as you know this is extremely common on all 2.0TFSi engines
I beg to differ, cam lobe wear is not common at all. Hundreds and hundreds of tuned GTI's on here and very few problems. More common on the couple of aftermarket turbos and very common in America.
-
How much is this kit? really intreasted in it ! And the cam followers are a verry common fault in these hence why forge had a cam follower awareness t shirts etc .
-
I've changed mine every 6-10k miles and never found serious wear. Having said that you can't drive that hard to tesco and back :ashamed:
Interested in cam developments :popcornsoda:

thanks bud! was a very proud end to alot of blood sweat and tears for me - soo good to be able to organise a shoot that incorporated my friends that had been so important through the build: i just graduated uni will all the ambition in the world when i commenced that build, that car taught me ALOT about tuning in the real world and i learned to live map with it. i owe it alot :drinking:
i'll keep you guys all in the loop about the cam pricing - and with the power gains. :happy2:
-
so, i fitted my hybrid front struts last night - got the front another 10mm down with 30mm of thread left, will probably lower the car another 10-15mm all round when i have had the chance to notch the chassis, cause we have a little bit of body to driveshaft interaction right now
i like my cars low but to still remain comfortable and have a good ride, i think we might be there with this setup :D
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9700.jpg&hash=a4da9afa461258155bddeac0c40d944e7df4ba92)
and as i said before the cams are in there now, did some miles last night to break in the coating on the cam lobe, will be dynoing later to see what's up if the workload allows!
not alot to see now they are installed, but i also changed the rocker to a baby blue flake number...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_9701.jpg&hash=2cc24c803f6c8d69b6f9687a5a489286bfc28d69)
kept the window off the vernier, which is obviously not entierly advisable - but i can be a tart every now and then right?

right then, some stuffs gone on with this thing of late:
new fuel filter and finally got the fresh map sensor in - old one was faulty, ran some fuel system cleaner too for good measure...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_0005-2.jpg&hash=7a24776981b8a339694d108ea5ca3a224d358a73)
then took the intercooler off to try and sort the fins out and give it a little cleanup behind there...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_0007-4.jpg&hash=e2fe64f3e9714a8157924f5fff1db94e832dfc76)
next up i fitted some K-Mac adjustable camber AND castor top mounts...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv342%2Fare_ess%2FDSC_0070.jpg&hash=623bbd0f4276f9a4e0e696aae0012ec3be4f97c6)
which are AWESOME, can get upto about 3" of camber at max settings and have dropped the car about 1"
also notched the chassis while i was there:
