-
Just been swimming myself mate trying to get a bit fitter and also going to get back into mountain bikes as well as I did some down hilling in the alps and it was awesome fun.
-
not good news Darron--hope you get well soon fella
-
Any pins & needles in your legs?
Anything like this happen before?
-
Hope you feel better soon matey!
Nothing more debilitating than back pain. I've been suffering with sciatica for the last few weeks so can sympathise. :sad1:
-
Keep moving! Is it just lower back pain or any referred pain into your legs?
-
Where is the back pain specifically? How low down? On one side or both? In the middle or not? Any shooting pains down the back of your legs?
Red flags which mean you need to consult a doctor immediately: problems opening your bladder/bowels (asin physically being unable to do so), difficultly walking because of weakness rather than pain, losing sensation down your legs
Chances are it's muscular, but I'd go to your GP to make sure and that way you can be referred to physio
You can get low strength co-codamol over the counter which you can have with your ibuprofen. Just be aware that it can bung you up and straining can make the back pain worse so plenty of fluid/fruit when you're taking it. And keep active because if you sit down your back will stiffen up and make it more painful

No pains in legs, or pins and needles just lower back pain! Iv'e had back pains before but not like this where I cannot walk?
Just at the moment I'm on the sofa, pillow under my back trying to keep has straight as possible, I can push myself up on my left side but on my right side or trying to pull myself up I just get a shooting pain in the center and right side of my back.
Thanks for the kind wishes guys

What muscle relaxant are you taking, diazepam?
-
sorry to hear this Darren, hope your feeling better soon :happy2:
-
Sorry to hear this and hope you get well.
As above, any worrying symptoms then get it checked out. 90% of back pain is muscular, can last upto six weeks and can recur. Keep moving, take the painkillers and physio will help. Go private if the wait is too long in your area.
-

Think so Bacillus, im not having trouble with passing water or anything no tingling nothing other than the pain in the back.
-
Gonna call the emergency gp out tomorrow
-
Make sure your backside's clean.

with some of the rubbish GPs referred me as ?CE both as a T&O SHO and an A&E SHO i didn't think they got PR'ed lol
-
TBH I've seen crap referrals from all specialties, incl T&O and A&E.
I will always PR to exclude CE.
TBH most GPs don't have urgent access to MRI in the same way T&O would for example. Depends on how the local system is set up. What do you do with a patient who has a sudden deterioration of back pain and sensory loss? Wait for loss of tone? Medicolegally highly negligent and far safer to send in and find out it's a normal MRI than wait for further symptoms and miss something vital.

yeah i'm not talking about borderline cases, but when not a single one of my back pain referrals gets MRI'ed because there's no clinical indication you start to wonder. anyhow let's not turn this into a debate about primary care vs. hospital medicine. it doesn't help the OP :happy2:
-
Ah! You forget the value of the "therapeutic" MRI. The pain suddenly goes away/eases when the patient realises there's nothing on the scan.

i'm pretty sure cocodamol and ibuprofen will have a massively lower NNT
-
As a veteran of lumbar surgery you have my sympathy darren! The fact you say there is no referred pain down the legs is a good sign, sounds muscular so get some voltaren (anti inflammatory), rest up but when you can, start moving again its very important. I do a 5km walk every morning, does the world of good. All the best from spain....
-
As long as its not a slipped dics your fine, I've been suffering with one from years from an old traning injury and I'm only 22 :sad1: hope u get better soon :happy2:
-
Hope you have a speedy recovery Darren. Back pain can be murder.
I once cried like a baby….I was laid up in bed with severe back pain. Every single movement was agony. It took my about 20mins to get to the toilet from the bed cos I didn't fancy pi$$ing myself :ashamed:
Volterol, Strong Ibuprofen gels are good…..but if you want some of my painkillers (oxicontin) I promise you won't feel any pain :rolleye:
(Im kidding of course, I can't let you have any pills) :ashamed:
-
Let us know what the Dr says Darren!
-
Totally sympathise with you Darren, I suffer from back pain and there is nothing worse. Im curently having trouble with sciatica but keeping moving is helping. I hope you get sorted out soon pal! :happy2:
-
Hope you only have a temporary muscle problem and nothing more.
Couple of years ago after a long overnight flight back from honeymoon, all of a sudden I couldn't move the day after and had to roll everywhere! Turns out I had trapped a muscle at the top of my rib cage from the many hours of sitting in a rigid position.
GP was restricted in what he could do, made me a physico appointment but I couldn't wait a week feeling like that. I rang up a sports physio and got an appointment that day, he cracked some bones, forced me to do certain stretches, it made it worse for a few hours then it started healing. Best £27 I had spent in a long, long time.
Hope it's something simple like this and all the best.
PS. Yes I rang to cancel the NHS physio afterwards :P
-
Cheers guys spoke to the GP today and he advised to get moving asap take Cocodamol and something else cannot remember the name bust a muscle relaxant and anti inflamatory should be fine in a few days,
Ive started moving about and walking is not so bad now still painful but not so much I want to drop to the floor and cry like a wuss.
Darren
-
That's a pretty powerful combo the dr has given you there darren I am sure it will do the trick. As said tho, the sooner you get moving the better. The old advice was stay in same position for weeks on end has now been dropped, you'll be ok mate but its not nice a truly horrid pain....
-
I was suffering with this a couple of weeks ago which cleared up a week ago but has reared it's ugly head again. Doc gave me Naprosyn and said to take over the counter painkillers. Hot water bottles also help.
If mine continues I will revisit the Docs but hopefully not. Mine just seems concentrated down my right leg. :sad1:

I had the same sort of thing Hedge. It started as Back ache first. A real niggling pain, which then started to turn into bad kidney pain.
Hot water bottles helped loads on my back/kidney area, but I remember having a terrible night.
Then it decided to turn into the most horrendous groin pain which then led to thigh/quad pain.
I was a mess from my right hand side lower back to my right knee….and it lasted days. :surprised:
Now I'm already on enough opiates to make a horse collapse, but I was instructed to take more as and when I needed them. I was eventually (almost) pain free, but I was living like a smacked up Zombie for 3days :rolleye:
-
Hope you get well soon Darren!
-
Cheers guys I eventually picked up on presciption Diazepam and Neproxen, been walking round today and seem to be better :happy2:
I still have an acute pain in the right side lower back but its now bearable when walking unless I turn awkwardly.

You ll be getting a good nights sleep on them darren!!! Naproxen is excellent but here s a tip for you, a bag of frozen peas. Will only cost you a quid, just lie on them on the painful area for 15 mins a couple of times a day it will reduce the inflammation and help you a lot.

Remember to wrap the bag of peas in a teatowel or something similar or alternatively don't hold them directly onto your skin. My friend's Dad ended up with the bag of frozen peas 'stuck' to the skin on his back!!!!! Ouch!
Hope you're on the mend matey - back pain and toothache are the worst. Glad we don't have to cope with childbirth! Keep taking the tablets.
All the best
Paul.
-
Glad to hear there is some improvement Darren. Nothing worse than a debilitating injury/illness.
Just take it that little bit easier in future. Know your limits as it can prove painful if you try to surpass them.
-
Sounds like a disc problem to me having suffered with one for 15 years on and off......none for last 3/4 yrs :happy2:

Another back pain sufferer here from an old lifting injury. The last really bad episode I had was two years ago and I could barely move, rolling over in bed was agony and even the slightest movement from my other half whilst in bed had me screaming in pain. I was literally screaming in pain in the middle of the night. I couldn't dress myself and had to have assistance to go to the toilet. Getting out of bed took about 20 minutes. I couldn't get in my car, let alone drive, so my mum took me to the doctors (my parents car is easier to get in and out of, and even that took me forever) and was on co-codamol and diazepam. Since then I've been seeing a chiropractor and have had a couple of mild episodes but nothing I can't handle myself with ibuprofen and paracetamol. I normally get a really bad episode approx once a year where I'm crippled and out of action for about a week, but get twinges on a regular basis.
-
I spoke too soon :ashamed:, currently off work with a bad back again! :fighting:
-
Sorry to hear Golfgirl, hope your mended soon enough? Iv'e just got a constant ache in my back now but no sharp pains at least.
Darren
-
I have to admit! Reading this makes me feel young :innocent:
Bad back is terrible tho! Heard horror stories about that siactica (if that's how it's spelt)
-
There are a lot of sufferers on this forum. I being one of them, get my SI joint injected in 2 weeks time :scared:
Do you think its got anything to do with the seats or suspension on the Gti - could VW be negligent, could we have a group claim
-
Get yourselves some Recaro buckets (like the option ones) - ruddy marvelous for anyone with a knackered back - morphine not needed after a blast in my RS4, but now very much needed after the GTI. :sad1:

Quite the opposite - the seats on my car are probably the most supportive I've ever had. I work in a variety of vehicles at work and have to have a lumbar cushion because they are that uncomfortable.. The GTI seats are awesome IMO.

It seems to have got better as the day has gone on. Taking tomorrow off to make sure but expect I'll be back in on Saturday. Once you've injured your back once you know about it forever and I'm used to it now!
