Title: best brake bleeder

I'm going to fit braided brake lines to the car and I'm due a change of brake fluid on my other car so might as well buy a decent bleeder



can anyone recommend me a good DIY bleeder.

I'm thinking of buying a used compressor but if i can get a bleeder with doesn't need one it would be handy.


also does the clutch need bleeding when i do the brakes or can i get away with not doing it?

Gunson is the best only 20 psi tho

Yes, been around for years and they are the best (for DIY at least)

id be worried about blowing the reservoir up or the cap blowing off and spraying fluid all over the car.




would i still need to cycle the ABS with vagcom, even if my car is new and i use the same VW brake fluid?

I used gunsun on loads of cars. Only use 20psi and your fine. Never needed to cycle a ABS pump ever (Im sure its a myth thats going round and one sheep copies the next and says you have to do it)

Yeah, there is a thread that I saw (possibly on here) talking about cycling the ABS pump that ended up with someone coming on and mocking everyone because he claimed that the ABS pump was in the 'open state' as normal meaning that fresh fluid would be pushed through it with a fluid change. That was my understanding too but I would like someone who really is in the know to come in and provide confirmation either way.

would that bleeder be ok to bleed the clutch while I'm on with it?

I've used one of those bleeders hundreds of time without fail and yes it does also work with a clutch reservoir!

I will have a look at mine to let you know what brand i have.

I can say it works extremely well.

Manual pump for desired pressure with gauge. Once completed release cap on bottle, that then sucks all excess fluid back into the bottle for a nice clean removal from the resovoir.

Best oart is it has a specific fitting for 55mm vw resovoirs. You can purchase fittings for other cars too.
