I am in the process of looking to facelift my GT Tdi.
now here is my question,
does the Jetta facelift (gti) bumper fit a golf? and is it a simple job?
or would i be better off trying to get a gti front bumper for a golf to start with?
i have tried to search and just seem to find lots of wanted posts.

Hi
the process of facelifting from the 'old' look bumper to the facelift/jetta/GT Sport/GTI bumper is all the same, the ONLY differences between the jetta/GT sport/GTI bumpers is the grills!
if i was in your position i'd look into changing the carrier too, although some people have gotten away with some cutting of the bumper - something which is very simple to do
good luck :happy2: its a worthwhile mod!

cheers for the reply apples,
at the minute im watching several bumpers on ebay, problem is most of them dont come with carriers so looks like i will be doing the chop/cut mod.
-
Keep in mind if you get the Jetta bumper the lower grilles are different to a GTI/GT (the top moulding for the fog grilles is elongated).
You'll find that most eBay sellers either neglect to mention this, or don't realise and sell them as GTI/GT bumpers.
Otherwise they are all the same.

cheers for the heads up.
at the minute it seems i can get a jetta bumper for about £30/40 quid cheaper and some are in better condition.
unfortunatly none are in laser blue. but i will just have to get a bumper sprayed.
i am staying aware from the "pattern part" ones

Mortygttdi has put a Jetta front bumper on his - so might be worth getting in touch with him on what was required.
Seen it in the flesh and it does look spot on, on his car

The fitting of a Jetta bumper is no different, it's just if you want to change the lower grilles over time then you're a bit more restricted.

I thought that the slam panel was different on non gt sport/gti golfs? And required a bit of cutting to make the facelift bumpers fit.

What I mean is it's the same process to fit a GTI/Jetta/later GT bumper, just that the Jetta one has different grilles.

thats what i seem to have found on a few sites. appears you need to cut a small square out of each side of the middle, which is hidden behind the grill itself anyway.

You might want to consider these prices before going Jetta (Im going Jetta because theres not going to be that many about. I hope)
1K0 807 243/4 A 2ZZ LEFT/RIGHT CHROME DIESEL £59.08 each
1K0 807 243/4 2ZZ LEFT/RIGHT CHROME
1K0 853 963/4 LEFT/RIGHT NEED PAINTING £10.32 each (This is the bit that goes between the grill and the chrome strip)
Dont forget theres always Ebay/Hong Kong to save a few pounds.

well it would appear after a bit of research that most of the bumpers on ebay are actually Jetta ones.
anyone with a Golf front lift bumper for sale, please see my wanted thread :happy2:

I fitted a GTI bumper to my TDI about 18 months ago, didn't bother with a new carrier I cut the bumper, it's a perfect fit and I wrote a how 2 guide on a couple of site about how to do it
