Title: Power retention?
Post by: suave on January 27, 2012, 09:10:58 pm
After reading recent thread about driving your car very little is it also a case of the GTI losing power as it gets older?

Does a higher mileage example not have it's initial/intended bhp and does it lose performance?

I do tend to keep my Golfs a few years and tot the miles up with daily driver.

Thanks

Mines an 05plate GTI on 64k and was running 194.7bhp on the rolling road in October so mine hasn't lost anything at all. Got another one in 2 weeks so find out if there's any difference then

Glad to hear - mine is also 05 and I hope it's still fit as yours.

Btw your rear badge looks great - is it colour coded??

Mines an 05 plate as well with over 115k on the clock,  last time on the RR it made 340bhp.  So ive gained 140bhp over the last 7 years   Still on the original clutch as well  :happy2:

A properly maintained / looked after GTI engine should live to see big mileage (probably 200+k miles). Only when the mileage gets up there do you need to worry about losing power.  :happy2:

Thanks :happy2: Yeah it's the later style MK5 one which I took apart and sprayed.

It should be, as said above as long as its looked after all should be fine
