Advice needed
Opened my bonnet today and now i can't get it to shut. I have tried slamming it and fiddling with the lever but no joy still won't shut.
Has anybody else had this problem or does anybody have any idea's on how to fix it?

Have you made sure the bonnet release handle inside is pressed back in???

yes even got the haynes manual out pulled the lever off and checked it over, cant make it out

What was you doing under the bonnet

just checking the oils etc wish i hadnt opened the bonnet now :sad:

I have this problem occasionaly, its the locking mechanism under the bonnet - gets stuck in shut position( grease must dry up), I just wiggle it about abit :happy2:

im going to have a better look in daylight tomorrow, just had a text from my vw tech m8 and he reckons its a common fault they are always changing them at vw

^^^ thats it, my bonnet stays shut now untill nxt service incase mine packs up aswell. :mad:

apparently thats the problem they dont get opened enough hence they seize up , so open more often i suppose lol

SNAP
just finished washing the car, poped the bonnet to dry up, then it wouldnt shut, i slammed and slammed thought i was gunner
break summit.
so i thought 'am not havin that' so poped it and moved the catch (on bonnet) slightly and that seems to have sorted it.
but for how long is anybodys quess

just a couple of bolts, loosen them, and move it towards the badge cut out, tighten them a try, also close it down
and look into the catch area, you might see which way it needs to go.

fixed :jumpmove: problem sorted yeh, had a lengthy chat at vw this morning new bonnet catch supplied i fitted it myself cost only 20quid old one badly corroded never seen lubrication in its life had to remove the grill to double check allignment but its only a 30min job.

Whaddya guys recommend for lubing the catch?

remove it clean it and grease it with heat resitant grease as it gets hot and any oil or lubricant can just run away, hence they corrode and seize up, just remember to remove the grill when doing it to check allignment and operation as if it sticks shut you can get to the catch

Bl**dy happened to me tonight, running late and meant to be on my way two hours ago. Wish I'd read this thread earlier as I'll probably never fiind the torx key I dropped into the engine bay... :ashamed: :confused: :sad1:
After removing the footwell trim, trying to move the bonnet catch and in the process losing the torx key, so with no magnet so after 30 mins of scraped skin I gave up trying to retrieve it. Ended up lubricating the catch with WD40 and started jigging things about with a screwdriver and hey presto the f*cker locked.... It took 2 mins... :embarrassed:
So panic over for now......

Only had the car 24hrs and mine has just stuck open, what a nightmare but just wiggled it about a bit, back to the dealer i think :smiley:

Mine did this today, tried everything still won't shut, drove it on the latch for about 50 miles home, eek, needs sorting... it's plenty lubed, latch is seated correctly, as is the handle... I've had this happen a while back, at least 12 months ago, can't remember what I did, perhaps heat related!? Feckin' boiling today, as are most parts of the UK.

Just to quote myself here... I decided to leave it last night, couldn't be bothered scanning etc.
Today, opened the car via fob, opened bonnet, closed bonnet, sorted, hmm.
