hope some body can help--a friend of mine has a Mk one Audi TT Roadster, 2005? the xenon head light comes on and works but goes back of,one garage said its the control unit but you have to buy the head light costing £900 :stupid: or Garage number 2 says its the ignitor thats faulty

To determine what it is swap parts from the other working light, once you know then buy the part. I put my money on the ballast which are in the region of £75

Does it stay on for a while then flicker first before it turns off? That's usually the bulb. Swap from the other light to check.
The switch can also go faulty. The internals carbon up and lose conductivity. Fairly easy to strip and clean up.
As morty says, the parts from one light can easily be swapped to the other to check. Just make sure you run the light for a while as the fault can re appear after a while.

cheers for the advice---get the parts swapped over when the car comes into the garage for some tyres on tuesday
