Title: Clonking/ Knocking sound!!
Post by: johnnyp1 on January 30, 2012, 04:56:20 pm
Hi all,

New comer to the formum, will post pix of my car when i get 5 mins

Golf GTI Dsg 57 plate. RED (best colour!)  :happy2:

Problem??
There is a slight clonking/Knocking sound coming from the front when driving at a steady speed.
Had the car 5 weeks and had a new MOT with it, so think its not he track rod ends!
could it be anti roll bars?
is it worth changing to poly bushes or am i jumping the gun.

Planned Mods milly Exhaust stage 1 remap (also to decide on which one)

Cheers, Johnnyp1

Drop links are around 10-15 quid each two bolts fairly easy.

Top man, I'll replace and report back, and double check arbbushes when fitting :happy2:

Also take a look at the front wishbone rear bushes.  Prone to start splitting.  They dont tend to create a knocking, but they can increase tyre wear.  Changing for some polybushes will improve the handling too.

If you change the front roll bar links then make sure you get four new nuts too.  The old links can be a pain to remove so give the threads a good clean with a wire brush and soak them in WD or similar.

ARB bushes tend to last forever.

Is there any play in the steering wheel?

Subscribed as I have some quiet knocking at low speed.  :sad1:

Had new top mounts, new clamps & brackets on front arb, new track rod ends

Might be worth checking the undertray. Mine was knocking when cruising/maintaining steady speed as it was loose.

easy and free to check
