Title: H&R springs or AP Coilovers???

Hi guys,

In preparation for the forthcoming JKM RR day, I thought I may as well fit some additional parts to my GTI.

I currently have a set of H&R 35mm springs sat at home waiting to be fitted, but have been offered a set of new AP coilovers at a great price. If I purchased the APs, then I could sell on the H&Rs which wouldn't leave me too much out of pocket.

Just wondered peoples views on going lower, as I am concerned that if I fit the H&Rs, eventually I'll want more lows in the future (and i'm not keen to spend a fortune on Bilsteins or KW V3s....)

So, what do you reckon, given the straight choice - H&R springs or AP Coilovers???

h&r springs . ap are junk and rot out within months

Funny you should say that, had a set on the S3 for 2 years on the road, 4 trackdays, no issues  :smiley:

Have used H&R springs on std shocks and they were ok too :happy2:

Hmm yes funny that, coz when i took my a.p's off they looked like new. Sold em instantly.

Tempted to get the H&Rs on (as they have been sat around waiting to be fitted for a few weeks now). Also have a rieger splitter to fit, and live in an area with crappy roads and a few speed bumps and have concerns about how low it'll sit /how long the splitter will last  :surprised:

Gareth, I am about to fit H&R springs instead of coilies as driving round the lanes near us is a nightmare. A 25mm drop will do me for now rather than ripping bits off my car.

Cheers Rob,

Good to have some input from someone that knows the local roads.

Definitely leaning towards fitting the H&Rs with the splitter - I don't pay fees for fitting parts at my mates garage, so changing over to coilovers wouldn't be too painful if I decided to go lower in future.

Any better alternative coilover options out there in the same price bracket as the APs that people could recommend? Or is it really worth spending significantly more?

Very pleased with my H&R. Any lower and it would be impractical (for me anyway)  :smiley:

Vmaxx, APS, weitec.  In that order Gareth. Tthey are all made in same factory...  Kw variant is a step up from them.
