My wheels on my edition30 are in perfect condition apart from one tiny wee mark on one. I'm after a colour change though. I want them darker. Has anyone got any opinions on whether to get them painted or powder coated? I want to keep the sharp finish of you get what I mean? In the corner of the spokes. any comments welcome.

Powder coating looks great. Mate at work had his M3 alloys done in a ''gun metal'' grey & they look mint.

I'd get them powder coated for a more durable finish. I was going to have mine done this Thursday, went to the workshop last week, spent ages and ages deciding on a colour, finally picked one...
Got home and realised I actually didn't want that colour at all. :rolleye:
Didn't want to risk choosing a colour I didn't like so I gave up in the end and just ordered some new wheels.

painting gives a better finish
poweder coating gives a more durable finish
depends what you are after
ive had both

Powder coating, we pay £30 a wheel stripped, cleaned & coated- its not worth the hassle of painting.

Don't you have to lose the wheels off your car for a few days when powder coating?
I've considered powder coating my pescaras in the Audi dolphin grey but don't have a spare set of wheels if that is the case?
I've had a few sets of alloys sprayed and it does give a great finish but only until it chips and starts to flake :sad1:

Id get them painted, unless your going for black, then id power coat!

Have a look at the second picture of reply #17, the wheels are powder coated in anthracite.........

They are now sitting on my vRS and I can confirm the finish is mint! :happy2:

+1 :happy2:
Whilst powdercoat does give a nice and durable finish it can't match the glossy wet look that a painted finish gives imo...
Also bear in mind that if using the wheels for track use with aggressive pads then the deposits have a tendency to 'melt' into a powdercoat finish

I agree with the previous post - paint vs coating, but depends what your wanting. A decent tyre place will use plastic coated tooles to fit your tyres and shouldnt damage the paint finish. Its just less hassle to have them coated, usually cheaper than having someone paint them for you. i had coated wheels and used mintex xtreme pads which burnt the coating and paint gives you a better finish but needs more prep work to hide small imperfections in the alloys. Yes, you usually drop them off, most coaters will do certain colours on certain days so you sometimes have to work around them but two days is about normal time from dropping them off to picking them up

I've had a few sets powder coated in the past but never painted. Leaving the wheels for however long isn't really a problem as the car is off the road for winter anyway. They won't be going black. I'm pretty sure I want them a darkish grey/ anthracite. Dan.paynes edition 30 gave me this idea. It was
The car won't be getting used on track so just road use.
