Title: mk4 Gti walnut dash trim
Post by: Tuffy on February 01, 2012, 09:47:09 pm
Hi guys
i've just bought a Mk4 Gti 1.8T as a little project....One question i have is, it has the walnut  dash inserts a door handles, which makes it looks more dated than it is
Does anyone know of anywhere that i could maybe get non wood effect inserts? looked on the old friend of ebay but cant really see anything. Also are they easy to remove
Thanks in advance guys  :happy2:

www.mk5golfgti.co.uk

You can get V5 trims which are black, or R32/Anniversary trims which are silver.

Ebay or similar.

Alternatively you could remove them all and wrap them with some vinyl.

On my old mk4 I took them off and rubbed them down, then painted them black. Looks miles better

I put all the anniversary aluminium trim in my mk4, looks better altogether.
There'll be countless threads on ukmkivs about the best place to get the stuff from :happy2:

It's a good few years since I had my mk4 GTI but from memory the Net Optic trims used to look really good.
The OEM trims aren't cheap unless you can pick up a good used set from ukmkivs.

The main issues I remember from mine were the plastic wood cracking despite gentle use and that lovely soft touch rubber coated plastic peeling and looking like a 10 year old banger interior after a couple of years use. No wonder VW changed to the cheapo look interior on the mk5, it must have saved them a packet in warranty claims.
When I had mine the drivers door handle wood trim bit cost £75 when I put a warranty claim in.  :scared:

So, as above, get some decent quality vinyl, clean up the plastic and wrap it. So many colours and styles to choose from.
