Title: Stage 1 Remap Who to go with Aggghhh!!!
Post by: gsgti on February 02, 2012, 08:15:22 pm
I'm sure its been covered before but seeing as remaps are flavour of the month....

What are your recommendations for a stage 1 remap on a standard mkV gti?? So many options  :scared:- REVO, R tech and shark seem popular. What do you reckon

I haven't heard anyone mention custom code, anyone had any experience with them??

All thoughts welcome

ta Graeme

Jabbasport in peterborough are always a good option, VAG specialists so no nasty fords or renaults there at the same time as our precious VAG's  :happy2:

They re-mapped my MKIV and my Ed30 is going to them in May (just after Cambelt service is due) for stage 1.

P-Torque then in Wombourne

They did my Edition 30 and never had an issue with it.  I've done 14k in 10 months and it's been faultless.  No clutch issues either

Had good experience with Motech in Northampton. Would definitely recommend them. Great price compared to AMD and Revo for what is basically the same thing.

Ring and talk to Mike. Very knowledgeable and helpful even trying to sort out a problem with my car that ended up to be nothing to do with the remap.

Hi mate im going next week to a place called "team rpm"
its in redditch near birmingham

Was talking to blueflame exhaust and told me they have started remapping
and tuning of cars from this location so he cut me a sweet deal
full turbo cat with 100cell highflow cat and remap for £800 couldnt say no

power gains at the wheel should be 240bhp  just with stage 1 remap, which he will dyno
it for me to prove it.

and with turbo back maybe extra 10-12bhp

Shark all the way  :happy2:

I'd PM you with an excellent quote as part of our introductory offer but you can't read PM's. Basically we will be knocking £100 off for the 1st 10 maps we sell. The GTI map will be £299 plus £150 for the STS as we are a fair way from you up in Lancashire.

Choose someone local that you can return to if required. For best results go with someone that can set the car up on the dyno, datalog all required parameters etc...

I second that. Its a right pain when you have to make a couple of 500 mile round trips just to get maps tweaked.
Also if you have any faults appear etc
Stick with one of the tried and tested places aswell like jannerSy said

I have looked in their site. Its bit like the Revo switch, in that you can switch between the standard map & the Shark one. Its also means that they dont need to come to you to map the car ( or you too them) as the map seems to be stored on the handheld device.

I have a shark STS device with stg 1 k03 map on it..... I'm told it'll go straight on to another car with the same engine ECU.

It is listed in the for sale section.

End of flagrant plug......

That is engine power. 197 to 240 bhp at the flywheel. In reality though they make a bit more than that. They play the figures down.

Just from seeing first hand how they work and the detail and hours they put into developing their maps that's all. I have a REVO map on my S3 and I don't rate it at all.

That's what I thought - else what would stop me flashing it to anyone that wants to pitch up at my house and pay a tenner!? Someone supposedly more knowledgeable than me kept stating it was universal.

I'd best get the thing on Briskoda, and get shot of it!

The great thing about remaps is that for every happy customer, you can probably find an unhappy one. On the anecdotal evidence of my car, from a technical perspective I would be unable to recommend Shark, but have no issue with the equivalent Revo calibration. There is no doubting however that Revo is an expensive option.

Then a few hundred £££ getting the ecu fixed because the partial flash has a paddy in the RSA area.  Plus like Martziniuk say the are locked to VIN.

What are your recommendations for a stage 1 remap on a standard mkV gti?? So many options  :scared:- REVO, R tech and shark seem popular. What do you reckon

I haven't heard anyone mention custom code, anyone had any experience with them??

Hi!

We have smallest crappest workshop of all the tuners, plus small cheap waiting room with a antique tv and ripped fake leather sofa, we are on a small industrial estate in Hinckley next door to a scrap metal dealer, only 3 staff,  no fancy map switch boxes, no fancy glossy adverts, and an outdated £9.99 per month website.......................   So no frills here sorry..... R-Tech fail... :ashamed:

BUT If your looking for a full health check, datalogging, good quality custom rolling road mapping session, dyno graph with realistic numbers....................... Then we can FRILL you.. :jumping:

Our prices match the quality of the wating room..... not the quality of the service... :happy2:

Yeah it makes complete sense - not locking it down would be a financial fail, as you'd sell one calibration and some gypsy would sell it on for buttons.

I did question said individual countless times, as I thought they were wrong, and indeed it seems they were.
