Title: 40,000mile Service Cost?
Post by: monte on February 05, 2012, 08:51:19 am
February is the dreaded month where everything has to be paid out  :sad1:

Up next is my car service and tax. My DSG Ed30 is 5years old in April and has done 36000miles.

I have always used my local dealer for servicing...except for last year. I used a local VW specialist to save a bit of cash. What a mistake. They managed to scratch my R32 pad retaining clips to hell and they even managed to put the mother of all scratches in my front near side alloy. (of course I couldn't prove this to them)

So I'm considering either another Indy or back to the dealers.

Any Ideas what is involved in this service and the costs?

I've had the cambelt/water pump etc done at 26000miles (under warranty) so that won't need doing !

When is the DSG service done?

Any other big costs?

Thanks in advance.  :happy2:

Might be worth looking into the 2 year fixed price servicing from VW. It works out pretty good value, especially as you get two free MOTs.

My 4 year/40k service was done at the main dealer on 14/11/11. DSG was £169 (not covered by the fixed price plan), and the value of the service (covered by the fixed price plan) was £78.08, labour £32.81 (both ex VAT). Like you, my cambelt has been previously done under warranty.  :happy2:

Thanks Lou  :happy2:  So am I right in thinking it will cost around £169 plus DSG service?

Had a look at the link from StephenEd30…..£179 for DSG service???  :surprised:  Just for an oil change???

Andrew, does the 2yr fixed price servicing include the DSG service too? @ £379 for 2 yrs servicing and MOT's (my MOT is due in April)  is quite good and might be the option I go for….but not if its gonna cost £179 for a DSG service on top of that.  :scared:

If that is the case I'll prob go with the new Independent VW specialist I found a few months ago.

Anyone have info on the DSG service? £179 seems a rip off to me. :ashamed:

Taken from Volkswagen's web site:

What we check and why

DSG transmission oil and filter change

Why does my DSG transmission oil and filter need to be changed?

This sophisticated piece of engineering needs regular oil changes. The smooth two-clutch system is computer-controlled with very fine engineering tolerances. If the gearbox oil is dirty it will damage the other parts and affect the performance.

What happens if it's not changed?

Dirty oil can overheat the gearbox or cause the clutches to burn out. This will lead to poor gear selection, loss of power and transmission failure.

What do we do?

We check the gearbox for leaks, drain it and replace the oil filter* before filling it with high quality gearbox oil to Volkswagen approved standards.
*Only on applicable vehicles

How often does it need to be changed?

The oil, every 40,000 miles, the filter may need to be changed as well.

I was told if it’s serviced by VW they look at warranty claims on the DSG in a more sympathetic way?

Yep, that's right. About £330 all in. I see you are based around, Lincoln. Despite being north of The River Humber, I always take my car to F Cross VW Grimsby; they are a brilliant bunch. I'd highly recommend them.

Mines approaching 30k now, I had a 'major' service from VW in Milton Keynes two weeks ago and the prices started at £269.

I told them not to touch the air filter due to having an intake fitted, not to touch ECU due to the remap and finally not to change the spark plugs because of having Iridium NGKs fitted.

Price was negotiated to £179 all in for all fluids, filters and a wheels off full check up.

My cars non-DSG though but still pretty damn good price for a main dealer. Plus I told the under no circumstances NOT to wash it

Right guys n gals. I made a couple of enquiries today.

I contacted a local VAG Indy and they came back to me with this....

"Price would be £340 for LL oil air fuel pollen fters spark plugs dsg filter and oil (would be with genuine parts)!!!"

I just came off the phone with lookers VW Lincoln saying £279 for major service and £179 for DSG service!
However they said if I send them an email from the Indy they would prob match it!

Trouble is the Indy specialist sent me a text message quote!
Are they going to send me an quote via email, or do you think they know the score, knowing that I will be using their quote to get a price match?

TBH I would rather go through the main dealer, but £120 is a big saving!

Anyone think Indy is the way to go?
Or
Try for the price match?

DSG is not covered on the fixed price service plan.

Regarding the DSG i would be more tempted to go with the dealer, that way if you have any issues with the box at a later date they will look at it more favourable if the car has been looked after within the dealer network.

My dealer told me that if the box is not done by the 40k required date then if a problem occurs they are more often than not, not wiling to help out on the goodwill side of things outside of warranty.

How did you get the cam belt changed under warranty ?

If your car is still in warranty and it is showing the symptoms of a worn cam then tell the dealer about all the cases on the forum that have been replaced through warranty. That's what I did!

Yeah I am going to try and get it done at the dealers. I just hope I can get a written quote or an email from the indy so that the dealer will price match!
