Check the wiring on the Airbags
Thank you Ed your a star, will check the wiring on the Airbag and about a year ago i had boost issues and the loom had rubbed thro near the starter motor, will check there and see whats happening :happy2:
-
Just been out to the car, Ed spot on mate, recoded the can gateway code has gone for the TPMS in there and the cluster, checked the wiring on the N/S seat looked good, disconnected the plug and one of the terminals didnt look inline with the other 2 so i straigthen that, cleared the codes and thats sorted aswell, This site is great the info is worth its weight in gold
now gotta check the boost sensor wiring
-
01218 is the classic code thrown up when the wires under the front seats get chaffed. There is a TSB for this, but basically, the front seats need unbolting, tipping rearwards, and repair wires soldering into the chaffed wires.
Don't do what my utterly incompetent stealer did - and chop out all the connecting plugs and just crimp the wires! :fighting:

Thats the thing the plug under the seat has already had that mod done it was the plug where the seat loom connects to the car loom with the pin out of line :stupid:
After sorting the airbag and TPMS i checked the wiring for the boost sensor and found the fault, soldered the wires and used heat shrink cleared the code and went for a spin, all i will say is driving normally (the way i have for the last few months) the esp was cutting in and the car went better than it has for a while now so all in all im happy with that, and while i was at it i checked that my AUX heater was working by going into the measuring blocks, says the system is on and at 700 watts

so im waiting to see if it makes any difference tomorrow morning :happy2:

My Z35 aux heater came up as defective recently, replaced it and to be honest I don't think it was worth the expense or effort.
Good you've got the other faults cleared.

Whats that then - something specific to do with oil burners - or some arctic prep?

Whats that then - something specific to do with oil burners - or some arctic prep?
It's an electric heater element, squashed between the heater matrix and the heater controls, primarily for TDI's on cold starts but can be fitted to petrols I believe.

Ahhh, do you have to plug it into the mains overnight, or is it just powered from the alternator?
Any links to anyone retrofiting it to a petrol?

to retrofit follow the link in this post mate :star:
yes as above it was an extra, my OH's 57 plate TDI doesnt have it tho :stupid: i first saw this on a scan and wondered what it was for, found this how to http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113468 and checked everything but still it didnt seem to work, so i googled it this morning and found more info on it, epic fail on my part, you see when its cold i press my ECON button to switch the AC off to save fuel :ashamed: the AUX heater turns itself off when the ECON light is on, so ive now got the AC on and the scan above shows the AUX heater is on and working so fingers crossed tomorrow i will notice the difference :signLOL:
-
It has dedicated big fat wiring from the engine fuse box. It only works under certain conditions, such as AC on, 90% of highest temp selected, minimum outside temp etc.
Found a Russian site with a retrofit I shall come back to you with that.

Well this morning i got in the car, started up and by the time i got to the end of the road the heater was blowing warm air, and within 2 mins of having the engine running it was blowing hot air, now ok it was 8c and my heater was on max heat, but all in all the AUX heater is spot on :happy2:
