Title: Halfords 5-piece Lifting Kit
Post by: stealthwolf on April 26, 2009, 07:01:16 pm
Halfords 5 Piece Lifting Kit

Cost: £69.99 (cheaper if you have a trade card)

Why
Trolley jack is useful for lifting the car without breaking your back. Axle stands give the car a bit of support whilst you work under it. The car creeper makes it easier to move in/out from underneath the car. It also makes you look like a proper mechanic. Wheel chocks help to stop the car rolling when you jack it up. Not sure what the "lug wrench adaptors" are for.

Sourcing
Halfords. clicky (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_241361_langId_-1_categoryId_165727#dtab)

Assembly
Not much required apart from the creeper, which wasn't difficult.

Usage
The trolley jack does a marvellous job of lifting the car up. The wheel chocks are metal, hinged and have a metal stand that makes sure they're triangular when in use, folds flat(tish) when not. The axle supports have three height settings and seem to support the car (only tried it briefly though). The car creeper is okay, managed to support my weight!

Summary
Save your money. Buy the trolley jack separately. Get wheel chocks from elsewhere (Halfords supply only plastic ones separately). Get better rated, adjustable axle stands. Or better still, have a garage with a hydraulic lift!

Good write-up!  :happy2:

Have you got any pics of you using the equipment on your car?

D'oh! No, but I can take pics of the equipment if needs be. When I swap the wheels over (again!), I'll try and remember to take some pics.
