changed my cloth seats for leather over the weekend and now the airbag warning light is on, all plugs in correctly. went to the stealers for it to get switched off and they quoted 58.33inc VAT :confused: ! is there a way i can turn the light off with out forking out a fortune to them and would rather not just unplug the bulb cheerrssss!

you need to find someone with VAGCOM diagnostics, i went to my mate with a odb port diagnostic reader he switched mine off but it seems to have come back on, i hadnt touched anything and mine randomly just came on, any ideas?

There is a list of VAGCOM owners on here somewhere, see if one is in your area, in exchange for some beers you should be sorted. I am obviously having the same issue too but I need to change the plugs first. I noticed that my old seats have another cable like an extension so I think I am just going to butcher them and join the wires together. Still have to get the light turned off later though.
Did you turn the ignition on with them unplugged, if not you may have another issue.

shweet will have a look, it first came on when i took out the front seats to have a proper carpet clean sesh and when i put the original seats back in it was still on so just think it needs switching off doubt there is any real fault :smiley:

When I swapped out my seats I also instantaneously had an airbag light issue, I chopped the plug under the seat and soldered it directly (battery disconnected of course). It was a VW bulletin many years back, but you still need the fault cleared.
It could of course be something unrelated - a scan is what you need.

thats a really useful guide thanks! but although apparently it seems to work, i don't understand how taking that connector stops the air bag light? is there more to it than just being a connector..?

It's bad contact between the pins, some people even report the pins being bent and not touching at all.
The plug on the seat itself seems pointless. I did this mod on my drivers side and it cured it, expect to do the passenger side as well at some point.

i didn't un clip this plug when i took the seats out though so can't have bent them? unless it just took that to stop them touching :/ oh well something to have a crack at later i guess :signLOL:

I never ever touched mine, was never a problem in my original seats but happened within days of putting in my leathers, and I also never touched the loom.
In all honesty it's half an hour to do it if that's your issue.

fair enough, yeh half hours fine lol pretty sure the ol soldering iron still works!
