2 of the Led's for my indicators have blown by the looks of things, the tail light works fine but when the indicators go there are 2 out. Has anyone had this before and is it an easy fix?
-
bump, this isn't a permanent problem and the connection is fine
-
No easy way to replace a failed LED apart from dismantling the light unit, desoldering the original LEDs and replacing with the right LEDs...

I have exactly the same thing! I managed to temporarily "fix" mine by taking it off the car and fully drying the inner out. I cleaned up the electrical contacts with some sandpaper and ACF50 and it worked. I suspect water is getting in from the seal around the light that meets the bodywork.
I only get this in very cold weather by the way. :rolleye:

I have been gettin gcondensation in the same unit, i will give it a go

Did you have any luck? Another thought is to put some silica gel in the lens.....

Noticed 2 on mine didn't flash orange when locking the car tonight. Unlocked and locked it lots of times and basically sometimes they flashed, other times they didn't. Quite a few times they did flash but missed the start of the flash by a tiny amount. Bit annoying but probably a damp issue, they are next to each other towards the bottom on the passenger side.

I have seen this happening on Mk5 Jettas recently to, Possibly a dry joint problem, Should be a easy fix if it is.

What would that involve?
-
not enough solder, just re solder and should be fine
-
As above, you will just need a very fine tip soldering iron and some solder, 2 minute job once you can get to the circuit board.

Yeah I imagine getting to it would be the issue

Can anyone post some pics up of the rear of a LED cluster and i will try and do my best to help,
-
Well mine have suddenly started working again now
-
Warmer weather? sounds like condensation getting on the circuit and shorting the LED's
-
Had a look again and my 2 problem LEDs don't work at all now for the indicator. They do occasionally flicker. Interestingly they work fine in Red. Maybe the cold morning had something to do with it? I'll park so the rear faces the sun tomorrow in case it's moisture
-
I now have 2 at the bottom, 2 on the top left and 2 on the right not working for the indicator all in the same unit! I took it off a week ago, left it to dry all day in the sun (in a conservatory) then put a couple of silica bags in to keep it dry. Now it's worse than ever. It's weird because they do all work at times.

PM'd you back dude, Hopefully we can get them sorted.

Thanks :happy2: weirdly they're all working today :stupid: not convinced they'll stay working though
