So.. im going to get my windows tinted. As i got a quote of £180 for all around.. Actually is that a good price?
I tried to take a good pic of my car to photoshop it.. but i have sweet FA camera skills. LOL!
So i found a pic on here i think of the same Golf! Minus the red calipers.. but it gave me an idea for the wheels too lol!
So if i used your car to "tint" then i thank you sir!
So here we go! (pics Below)
Half Medium Tint and Half Light smoke...

All Round Medium Tint

Which you think i should get? Bare in mind my car is identical to this!
-
Depends on how often you want to be stopped by plod...I'd go for a light smoke, but will this pass the light test?
£180 is a good price for all round I would have thought.
-
all round medium id say, im sure u can still get a darker tint which is road legal (ie allows the required amount of light to pass through). I
got my X5 done years ago and found the lighter tint look daft on the car and ended up getting it redone, which cost even more as i had to get the tint removed
-
Yeah see i was thinking medium. medium is ok for the back tints.. but the front is a bit iffy!
It looks so much better though.. but its one of those rock and a hard place situations.
-
do one shade all around it looks better

-
What smoke level is that Mat? And She is Nice! So anyone any ideas of what wheels i could stick on her?
-
the front are just one level bad so are just naughty :ashamed: but they look
-
180 is good price but make sure they take trim off that surrounds windows, otherwise you get 'white lines', I never noticed the white lines on mine until a member on here pointed them out - now I think my tints are sh*te, but etto

have you been stopped? what would you say if you did get stopped, this is the reason i havnt done mine yet. i did my girlfriends clio and she got pulled over on the way to work and the plod made her rip it off on the side of the road.!!  abit drastic but i had a giggle! :rolleye:
-
never been pulled  hope i dont too
-
i had light smoke all round on my golf for about 2 years before i was pulled 3 times in a week.. just before i sold my car lol
-
just be careful with tinting, all new cars come with them already slightly tinted..
i think, and its a think, your front windows have to let 65% light through...
-
im sure its in the region of 70%
-
yeah, it must be 75% then, i rember it being some funny figure.lol
i had the section 69 law at homr when it all came into force.. plus i used to get stopped loads for my tints on my mr2.. :ashamed: so, theclub i was with went on a 'police and boy racer meet' ... oh the joys and arguments that was.lol
-

yeh i think 30% reduction is the limit, i went with 45% on the x5 and was fine was never stopped, for the tints anyway
IIRC it also depends on the year of manufacture ie newer cars have stricter limits on B pillar forward
defo go same level all round

Not quite...
Front side windows on all cars must allow 70% of light to pass through them. That figure also applies to the windscreens of cars first used before April 1985; any car first used from then onwards has to let 75% of light through the windscreen.

I recognise that car. And the background. That's MY car!
Nice to know people are saving them
Anyway, I'd go for all round tints at the maximum level. If it's 25%, then 25% all round.
-
ah :happy2:, i knew I remembered something about dates

Thanks Stealth Wolf... She is identicle to mine.. LOL!
-
Stealth Wolf.. Would i be right in thinking that you have a scratch accross you drivers door? Looks like it from the pic. Do you still have her btw.. or have you sold her on? If so.. i think i bought her.

w00t?!?!?
I had to look a second time. No there's no scratch on the driver's door! That's all reflections that you see on the pic! There's a minor scratch over the rear wheel arch, which I've filled in with paint but need to polish down and clearcoat but you shouldn't be able to see it in the pics it is so small.
BTW mine's an edition 30 with Monza II shadow alloys on (though I've temporarily removed them).
-
I'd be careful when choosing how dark you go with the tint. If you go too dark and you have an accident, the insurance company could void your insurance and then the plod would have a field day!!! :scared:

Surely if he went to the legal limit and let his insurance know, he'd be okay?
I'd accept going darker isn't something he should do.
-
i think i have decided on the light smoke.. it a 35% tint all around... So not too dark.. just slightly darker than the GT Tdi Tint from factory.
Thats the legal limit for the front.. so may as well keep it going throughout.

Possibly, but I for one wouldn't risk it.
LOL, this is the third post today I've done which talks about mods I was considering and then didn't go ahead with!! I'm either going all sensible or getting old :signLOL:
-
HAHA HURDY..
i have saved some cash to do some mods.. and then i find more i want to do.. So im stuck! Im definetly getting the windows and wheels. But the wheels have ended up costing more than i thought. So i dont know if i should fork anout 500 - 1k+ for gti body kit, recaro interior, angel eye hid projectors and engine remap. ) See my predicament?
-
You want to see it from my perspective. I worked out the other day I've spent £13k on my car in aftermarket mods and could still easily spend the same again :ashamed:  :jumping:
-
What the Fook!! :rolleye:
i thought you got rid of your car for a GTi? Did i just make that up.. as im sure i read your thread..?

Mine is an Edition 30 - I've had it just over 2 years! :happy2:
-
So what was you project? Old car? You upgrade to the ED30?
-
My old car was a GTTDI140 DSG, but that just had a few mods, not like this one

But 35% tint at the front results in 65% light transmission, and that isnt taking into account the subtle tint that motor car windows already have?
