Title: Hello, I've just joined
Post by: cxp381 on February 08, 2012, 12:22:00 am
Hello,

I've just completed a purchase of a 57 plate Edition 30 and hope to pick it up in a couple of weeks. I've since been reading all sorts of posts about MkV GTIs and it seems most people love them. The test drive was great, it felt really good, tight and I couldn't detect any issues.

However, I have been reading about problems with coil packs and diverter valves. I'll apologise now as this is a very well publicised topic but all I want to know is whether you guys think it'd be appropriate for me to ask the dealer to chek them out before I pick it up?

It's an approved used example from a VW garage and has done 37, 500 miles and had 1 owner from new.

Thanks very much!

Welcome.

And, yes, you're the customer about to part with a large amount of money.  Definitely worth a phone call.

 Welcome

Get the pics up as soon as!

What colour is it BTW?

The coil packs are a recall so if they haven't been done you can get em done foc
The diverter valve is 40ish squids so not a great outlay….if it needs changing  :happy2:

…plus if its a VW approved used ed30 you shouldn't have any bother.

Thanks for all your welcomes - all very friendly and some useful comments.

I ended up making the call about said issues and there was nothing on the car's history to say it had had any previous trouble. I agree that as a VW approved used example it should be fairly iron clad.

It's black by the way. Not my first choice but as I didn't have a choice I shall go with it. It looked lovely anyway! Will get some photos up as soon as I have the car!

The garage also threw in autoglym life shine, service plan and gap insurance. Plus on their final "walk around" of the car, noticed the alloys were scuffed so they're re-doing them as well!! (It's Yeovil VW in case you're wondering - I'm very impressed so far).

As for mods, I'm not totally convinced. This will be the most powerful car I've ever owned, and I once had a bad experience re-mapping a Renault clio dCi....though that could've just been the clio....

Welcome  :happy2: if you only do one mod, a remap will be the best single thing you could do. If you use a decent tuner you'll have no major issues with the software itself  :driver:
