Hi,
I have a Golf 2.0 GT FSi, on a 54 plate. Yesterday, about 20mins into my motorway journey, the engine light comes on. Car is fine, driving no different. Pulled into my local independant VW specialist, he plugs it in, a few error codes came up, but nothing obvious. Some of the codes have registered before on the car, when I was diagnosing what turned out to be a throttle body issue last year (all fixed).
He cleared the error, and said any probs go back.
On the way to work this morning, again, 20mins into motorway driving, the light comes on again. Same again, not running any different, but one thing I think I notice was the fuel gauge seemed to drop more than usual. Not sure if thats me being paranoid though?
Any ideas? Mechanic didn't give me a specific code, but am calling him today to get booked in again.

What kind of fault code reader is this independent VW specialist using? VCDS (basically a laptop with a lead), or something like a Snap-On or Bosch or other fault code reader?
And if you 'paid' for a scan (you didn't make it clear if you paid, or if it was done as a free assessment), then the garage should give you a full printout of the stored codes, or at least write down the fault code numbers for you.
Sadly, without any actual fault codes, we would just be guessing what the problem is, and could possibly give you wrong or bad advice.
When the car next get looked at, ask the mechanic for ALL the fault codes, and we'll try and help you further.

It was the lead into a laptop. He done as a favour really, as I was driving past, and he said to pop in to see if he could see anything there and then.
He's gona have another look Saturday, and this time, will investigate more.
Regarding the fault codes, I will see if I can get an old print out, from when I last had it done at VW. There were a few on there, that also appeared on there last night.
