As above. Looking to buy some new wheels
Fronts are, 17" 8j et 42
Rears are, 17" 9j et 42
Will these fit mk5 golf?

Providing the PCD is 112 and the centre bore is 57.1 or higher (you can fit spigot rings) then maybe, to give you an idea of the difference, the 8j wheel will extend 15mm further and the 9j 28mm than OE, so they could rub, especially the 9j.....

imo 17" are too small, 18" should be standard to purchase as upgrade but each to their own i guess?

IMHO even 18" looks a little small, I'm looking to get a similar size but in 19" but after looking at loads of wheels i'm thinking of going 19" 8j et 45 on the front and 19" 9j et 45 on the rear (or maybe even 19" 8.5j et 45 - if a wheel exists?)
You could also go for a stretched rear tyre to maybe minimise the rubbing? - I could of course be wrong on that so if i am someone please correct me :driver:
