Title: Exhaust Emission Light On!

My exhaust emission light came on this morning after only having the car two days! (private sale, you take the risk)

I noticed before the light came on that the tickover at standstill had got erratic going up and down between 800 and 1200 revs?

Also before light came on I averaged 37mpg to work and on the way back it was only 32mpg both times at the same speed.

I plugged in a cheap code reader I have and it came up with no faults?

As far as I know the car Gti 2005 has not been recalled for the coil packs and ecu, do you think this might be the cause?

I have booked car in at my local independent garage on Monday for full diagnostics etc.

Just wondered if anyone had an idea what  the problem might be?

Am i ok driving the car till monday, without ragging it?

Follow on, I have just been outside and started the car, erratic tickover exhaust light on. So I unplugged maf and exhaust warning light went out no lumpy tickover!

Stopped car plugged MAF back in, started car no exhaust light and no lumpy tickover. Do I need a new MAF?
